Waitlisted Questions

I was just wondering how many people were going to accept a spot on the waitlist. Also, does anyone know how many were waitlisted and how many were rejected? How likely is it that we will be accepted off the waitlist? Basically, what is everyone's course of action?

i guess its hard to predict how many will get off the waitlist.. varies from year to year, i think finding out the % of accept, reject, waitlist would be helpful tho....

im waitlisted as well, should we update them with new information in a months or so time? since my second semesters grade will be great.... along with maybe some updated information, just to get to the top of the waitlist pool? or is that just futile?

I'm definitely sending more stuff in. Is the waitlist ranked? How does this work?

waitlist is not ranked.. ppl are selected based on where the vacancy is created.. and though they have already set their preferance for ppl to be admitted.. the high reliability oin waitlist is also due to the fact that most the students will go to other top schuls whose decisions arent even announced now...

and well as all yrs they have waitlisted a huhge chunk of students ..

SM

Who else is going to accept their Waitlist spot? Is it worth it?

Is there anything I can do to improve my chances of admission from the wait list?

In most cases, the answer is no; it's just a matter of waiting to see how many of the students we've already admitted actually enroll. However, if you receive any outstanding awards, see a dramatic rise in spring grades, or have any new achievements you'd like to tell us about, please feel free to forward the information to us. We'll place any new credentials you send us in the front of your application file, so the Admissions Committee will see them if we have occasion to select applicants from the wait list.

Due to limited funds, please note that financial assistance will not be available for students offered admission from the wait list.

Waitlisted here too! I guess I will place my name on the waitlist; however, I'm happy I have a back up. I really like this school, but this is such an unpredictable position to be in.

waitlisted, as well..... gah, the only people who are in from my school are 'multi-cultural'... uh, guess you don't really get anything for being white.

Is it just me, or does it appear that everyone that wasn't accepted was placed on the waitlist? I bet it's going to be a llllllooooonnnnngggg list.....

a good friend of mine received a "wait list" letter online from washington university. that's so weird. she already got three likely letters from cornell, yale, and stanford. considering washington university as her safety school, shouldn't washington university give her admission?

... has anyone been flat out rejected? it seems that everyone here on cc has been deferred...

Yeah, I'm starting to think that waitlist is their nice way of telling us we're rejected. And actually, I'm really sick of the ******** WashU is trying to play with trying to keep students in their radar because they know the yield from their admitted students are going to be low. They are just keeping us on the waitlist so that when people reject WashU to go on to other schools they will have backup to fill their slots. I really wish they told me a flat out yay or nay, because th is whole waitlist thing isr eally irritating me.. I accepted the waitlist but oh well.. what can I say..

If you accept the waitlist, and there's room for you later, are you obliged to take that spot that they offer you?

If you applied early and were deferred, can you also be waitlisted or just accepted/rejected?

No it is not binding, because you will most likely have already had to turn in a non-refundable deposit to another university or college and they cannot make you come to their school - if you say no, they will move to the next person on the waitlist.

If you applied early then you can be accepted, waitlisted, or rejected. Once you have been deferred ED, you become just another RD applicant.

where did you get that info from knows11? someone just told me they called admissions and they said ED can only be accepted/rejected.

knows- if u apply ED and then are deferred you cannot be waitlisted, a direct quote from a regional rep "we don't waitlist ED applicants, that is just unfair and cruel"
