Waitlisted/rejected from UCSD? Appeal.

I am a Sixth College alumna and I currently have a cousin that is a freshman at ERC. She is a molecular bio major. Despite being a very good candidate, she was waitlisted. Although I don't remember all of her stats, she had no more than 4-5 B's and had outstanding ECs. She was planning to attend UC Davis as a Regents Scholar while she awaited the result of her appeal at UCSD. Apparently, the adcomm miscalculated something on her application and apologized for the error – she should have been admitted initially.
Thus, for any person who has above average stats and was waitlisted or rejected, it is worth your time to appeal. There could be an oversight in your application or you were perhaps yield-protected. However, I only recommend this if UCSD is your first choice because you want to express your genuine interest in your LOCI. If you have been admitted into a better school/a school that you prefer, it will allow some space for others who truly want to attend.

Good luck, everyone.

P.S.: If any admitted students have questions, feel free to PM me. Be aware my knowledge is somewhat limited to the social sciences (I was a political science major and am a current law student).

Hi, I’m on the waitlist for UCSD and am thinking about appealing.

I was curious as to whether your friend who successfully appealed had an error in her application that had to be fixed or if she wrote about other factors. I do have a minor error in my application but was planning on writing about my grades last quarter which I had not accounted for.

Any input would be appreciated. Thank you :)

Hi I’m on the waitlist for USCD and I am wondering why in the world did they offer me a chance to be on the waitlist when my grades are below average. My major is computer science and I will not finish all the transfer requirement by Spring 2012. However, they offered me a chance to be reconsidered. Any clue of why they decided to give me that opportunity?

@itzEdward: The UC’s were incredibly random this year. Seriously, I have friends who applied to all the UC’s and only got into Cal and Riverside. With all the budget cuts, the UC’s seem to be more random/lottery-like each and every year. You may have written a good essay or maybe you just got really lucky. Regardless, congrats.

I wouldn’t able to finish all the pre req by spring for bioE: Bioinformatics.
However, i will study summer quarter and finish that up so therefore I think as long as we can finish the pre req before Fall and it should be fine ( I m a transfer)

Yeah, I was waitlisted for UCSD, even though my cumulative GPA is a bit below its average (my CC GPA is high, but I had a bad stint at a 4-year almost a decade ago, and they jam all those grades together). I’m wondering whether I should use the waitlist essay, OR use the appeals process.

I got into UCSD for Computer Science missing two required courses: Linear Algebra and Differential Equations. Cumulative GPA of 3.69 (with academic renewal). Very blessed to have gotten in with that considered, especially after being rejected from UCLA, Berkeley, and even UC Santa Barbara…

Especially considering Santa Barbara is ranked lower as a national university in comparison to SD and their CS department is ranked lower as well. UCLA and UCSD, their CS department is ranked the same. But more interesting, according to Payscale, the potential salary earning of graduates from UCSD is 8, Berkeley 5, and UCLA 19…

@kkthxby3 your stats are much higher than mine… also I will not have all the CS requirement done before transfering
