I didn't really see a thread for the waitlistees of 2014 so I decided to make one. What are you guys planning on doing, and what do you reckon if any are the # of students taken off this year?

i just updated my info and am hoping for the best. but if worst comes to worst, ill still have princeton (:

bump, bump

I’m just waiting and hoping for the best at this point; I’ve sent in the deposit for the university I’m currently going to attend. Though, unless the financial aid wasn’t good enough, I’d matriculate at Stanford in a heartbeat if given the chance.

As for the waitlist admits, here is some pure speculation/guesstimation/take-with-a-grain-of-salt calculations:

The class of 2014 has a target class size of 1,675 (25 less students than last year). Going off of last year’s yield percentage (69.9%), about 1608 of the students who were accepted will matriculate (perhaps a little less since the yield includes waitlist students), leaving ideally 67 admits off of the waitlist for this year. That being said, I believe the number of students admitted this year is roughly the same as last year’s (2300), leaving the estimated number of waitlist students offered admission the same as last year minus the 25 less spots. In that regard, about 60 could be asked off of the waitlist initially, with a potential 102 acceptees from the waitlist.

I’ve noticed there’s also a considerably smaller number of students offered spots on the waitlist this year (998 vs. 1,354), so there’s slightly better odds in that regard.

Basically, there’s some hope. Hopefully.

Sorry to double post, but to update our waitlist information do we have to resubmit the waitlist form? It seems a little odd we have to resend our waitlist confirmation just to add a new paragraph.

On a slightly different topic, the time until mid-May seems to be getting longer, and the possibility of there being waitlist admits lower (with the +400 student sized Admit Weekend this year). :/

^ Do you know how that compares to previous years’ admit weekends? I think it’s somewhat comforting that the waitlist is 400 students smaller this year AND the acceptance rate is lower. But you never know what percentage of students will accept their spot on the waitlist, so in that regard our chances are totally unpredictable.

Ah, I was a little unclear. When I said +400 students for the Admit Weekend, I meant that there are over 400 more admits at Admit Weekend than last year (about 1,335 admits are expected to be there this year).

Yeah, at this point it’s really all up in the air.

Oh, sorry Leidolon I didn’t see the article in the Stanford forum until you referenced it. Yeah that’s definitely bad news for the waitlisted, since I’m sure a lot of the students who go will love it. We can cross our fingers though!
