Waitlisted Students

I got accepted for Spring and waitlisted for fall. Does anyone know how their wait list system works? Like is it just as simple as getting moved up when someone accepted doesnt enroll?
When can I expect to find out if I can go into fall? Is there some percentage of students that make it in fall from the waitlist? Any info at all would help

I am in the same situation. I emailed Maryland. I’ll post what I sent and the reply I received.

Hello, I am sure you are receiving an overwhelming amount of
questions regarding the decisions posted online yesterday. Sorry to
add one more… I am wondering about the wait list for students admitted for
spring semester but wait listed for fall. How does this work? Is it
completely random who will be chosen for admission or is it based on
grades, SATs, etc? The reason I ask this is because I know of about 15
other people from my school who are in the same situation as I am and I
have almost 200 points higher on the SAT than they do as well as the higher
GPA and extracurriculars. Will this make a difference when it comes
to choosing students to be accepted from the wait list? If accepted, I
would immediately confirm enrollment. Any input would be greatly
appreciated.
Thank you

The response:
We will only go to the established waitlist if we are in a
position to offer those students a spot in the fall class. In
years past, we have not had to move students from the waitlist
to the fall semester.

doesnt sound promising…I almost would have rather been rejected completely. This just gives me one more (very complicated) option to weigh.

If that is true than why would they even do wait list? It doesn’t make much sense to me.

because they’re annoying, that’s why.

i got in spring (>.<) and didn’t even get waitlisted but i know two years ago a bunch of my sister’s friends got moved up to fall. so it’s more possible than that email makes it seem like. i think.

I just want to know how long I have to wait to find out. If I get moved up to fall I will probably be going, so it would be nice to know sooner than later.

Yeah, I think that the response I got was maybe a computer generated one… One of my moms patients works at Maryland and we have been emailing about it. I asked her about the waitlist and about freshmen connection. I’ll let you know what she says.
