Waitlisted T-T

My D was admitted to MHC, it was her safety school.

^ probably not the best place to say that, when everyone else would do anything to go to such an Amazing school…

seriously though, being a little bit more sensitive wouldn’t hurt.

agree with jamapelle.
being on wait list is cruel enough.

Indeed, that was a cold and unhelpful response, 888sale. I’m sorry to hear that your daughter is attending her last choice and whining about it. But really, it’s not your place to insult those of us who weren’t so lucky to have a choice between attending or not attending.

You should ignore 888. This “person” is a ■■■■■, likely someone who was recently rejected by MHC (and elsewhere).

Do not expect to hear anything B4 May 1 from MHC (or any other school where you are waitlisted). If you do, good, but don’t expect it. After May 1, there will be a lot of movement throughout the entire HS senior world as students who were accepted at more than one school turn down their multiple offers of admission. 35+ years ago, I paid my deposit at school A but stayed on the wait list for schools B and C. School B ultimately accepted me. We lost the deposit on A when I ultimately went to school B. Now, that loss in money is not even a drop in the bucket. But had I not paid the deposit on school A, I might be flipping burgers now.

888sale, out of curiosity, if your daughter dislikes MHC as much as your posts imply, why did she apply?

I’m sorry if I sound rude but as a waitlisted applicant desperate to get into MHC, I was just wondering why she didn’t pick a “safety school” she liked instead of taking a place several people would love.

A year ago, I was on MHC’s wait-list.

A few hours ago, I clicked on my Decisions link and I saw the congratulatory message on my application as a Transfer.

Who knows, you might not even need to wait a YEAR to hear from them, so just do your best and let them know how much you really want this. Alternatively, don’t pine on just one school, I CANNOT reiterate just how important it is to PAY YOUR DEPOSIT at another school FIRST (as what ConcerndDad advised).

Oh, can I just say that I really enjoyed my first college - profs were awesome, met ridiculously supportive and kind people, and my Dean was more like an older sister than she is an authoritative one. BUT my heart was already set on MHC so I HAD to transfer.

Good luck, enjoy the rest of your HS career, you can PM me if you need any details or help or whatevs.

I copied this from my post on
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/mount-holyoke-college/673035-waitlist-almost-rejection.html</a>
“I was also waitlisted!
I am NOT an international applicant and I AM applying for financial aid.
I sent them a letter of interest through email and I am planning to send them more information tomorrow, even if they say it is not necessary. How much will this help?
How will Mount Holyoke know that the accepted students declined their offer?
When someone pays their deposit, are they automatically informed? Or would the student have to write a letter directly to the Admissions Office?
Because otherwise, how would they know how many spaces there are left to “fill”?”

ConCerndDad wrote that accepted students who choose not to accept admission can log onto Mount Holyoke’s website and decline the offer, write a letter to the Admissions Office, or write an email to the Admissions office.
If they do not do this, does this mean their spots will remain “empty”?
I’m guessing Mount Holyoke will choose applicants off the waitlist according to the number of students who pay their deposits before May 1, 2010?

Also, did anyone send additional information through mail?
They said emails only, but what about things that cant be emailed?

You’re correct.

What are the chances they will want to fill up all those spots?

Is there a list of all these acceptances and stuff? Including waitlists?
The spreadsheet I saw did not include waitlist applicants. I think. :P

Does anybody have any statistics regarding Mount Holyoke’s waitlist?
How many students were placed on the waitlist?
How many students have been accepted from the waitlists in previous years?

I’m not going to do this, but you can try googling “mount holyoke college common data set.” there’s also probably a few outdated numbers on college board.

Yeah, I looked at those.
[Mount Holyoke College :: College Statistics](http://www.mtholyoke.edu/offices/iresearch/15354.shtml)
Neither the Detailed Admissions Statistics nor the Common Data Sets show waitlist statistics.
However, I read on another website that only 5 students were admitted from a waitlist of 300 something students.

^ actuallly the CDS DOES reflect their waitlist number/acceptances, for FRESHMAN entrance only.

Good luck to all of you ladies! Waitlists are such an atrocious purgatory.

(If it’s any comfort, I recently turned down MHC in favor of Smith, so…there’s at least one spot open for someone from the waitlist to fill!)

My daughter sent her “decline” in, she liked Mt.Holyoke, but got better aid elsewhere.
Good luck to everyone!

Did anyone get a confirmation email saying they received the additional information?

I’m submitting my deposit for another college tonight. :/

getting closer to knowing yes or no…geez

I declined MHC, hope you guys keep your hope up!

My D opted for Northwestern so there is another slot. Good luck.
