Waitlisted & the Statistical Chances of Getting In

Swings in Northwestern's yield must account for the variation.

While the Common Data Set isn't posted yet for the Fall 2004 Admits
The Daily Northwestern Article indicated that they were only in need of about 25 student to achieve the target class size for Fall 2004.
So they went back down to a two digit acceptance (25) from the Wait List in 2004 after the 2003 jump to three digits (102).

Duke doesn't seem to post information on their wait list on line.
US News and World report doesn't have wait list information listed, and googling for Dukes Common Data Set on the web and/or searching for it on Duke's web site dosn't bring it up.

Has any one else been able to fine Duke's "Common Data Set" Posted online??

You might want to try calling their Admissions Office to ask how many typically get admitted from the wait list to get an idea of what your odd's are.

The Prospective College Students on CC have an opportunity to do some research and share the results with every one else on CC.

How to find Waitlist Info.
Look at the Colleges Common Data Set Information.

I find the Common Data Set information by going to a College's web site and using their websites Search tool to look for "Common Data Set".

If the College Makes them available, there are usually a few years of them available.
Look at Section C - First Year, First Time Freshman Admission.

There is lots of info there on the incoming class for that year, including the wait-list info.

I like to post a link back to the College Web site, so you can check the facts for your self. ( Sort of an electronic foot note)

If the college doesn't post the Common Data Sets, call the College Admissions Office or Registrar and ask them for the Common Data Set info.
They have it, every College fills it out to supply US News and World Report, Kaplans, Princeton Review and the other Rating organizations with data.

Now that you know how to fish, share your findings with the rest of us.

St.Michael's in Vermont?
Unfortunately,the waitlisted
student needs some form of hook
to get admitted.
Could you elaborate?

Thank you for both.

Statistics for Macalester please.

I think some of the increase in admissions off of waitlists is probably due to more students applying to more schools. The math says unless you are at the very top of the food chain, i.e. ivies and top-top LAC's, you will have more of your accepted students choosing another school and forcing you to use the waitlist. On the other hand I htink that a lot of schools have decided that if they only waitlist and never reject, a la WUSTL, more students will aplly next year wrongly believing that these students actually had a chance.

Accepted from the wait list--please clarify---does that mean that if 10 were on the waitlist, 5 may have been offered a spot off the waitlist but the accepted number pertains to the 2 who actualy enroll vs those offered a spot who already chose to go elsewhere?????

dogs-
the phrase "Number of wait-listed students admitted" indicates the number of students that were on the wait-list that actually enroll in the College.

You are right - the College may have offered admission to a lot more students on the wait-list till they found enough to fill the spots they had open.

university of vermont...for a friend.

thank you!

jmmom

While they list a link on their Web site for the Common Data Set
I can't get it to open???
(Try the link "The Colleges Vital Statistics" on the following page)

However US News lists the following for the Class that entered in Fall 2003
Qualified applicants placed on waiting list: 346
Applicants accepting a place on waiting list: 186
Students enrolled from waiting list: 57

As far as waitlisted Students needing a hook, some Colleges may need to fill certain spots, when RD admitted students don't matriculate. It might be a artist, athlete, musician ..... You probably need to ask admissions what they are looking for, but they won't know until they get the replys back from those who plan to attend and those who decline to attend.

Can you tell me the waitlist percentage for Northeastern University and Massachusetts College of Pharmacy-Boston?

Thanks.
