It's that time of year again when colleges are going to start taking people off the waitlist, so I decided to make a thread for discussion related to the Rice waitlist!

Some questions to start off the discussion!

Who else was waitlisted and is hoping that they hear from Rice in the next coming months? What did you guys send to convince them to accept you off of the waitlist? Is Rice your first choice?

For me personally, I just sent in a letter of continued interest detailing why I wanted to attend...pretty creative huh? If I got off the waitlist, I would attend Rice unless I got off the Williams waitlist as well...but the chances of that happening is pretty low. I'm content with the school I SIR'd too though, so I guess if I dont' get off any waitlists it's not a huge deal haha

I got accepted off the waitlist today, too!
I got a message from the admissions office saying to call them back. I called them, they asked me how interested I would be in attending Rice if I got admitted off the waitlist, and, when I said I would be VERY interested since Rice is one of my top choices, the office said I was admitted! :D

Hi, sorry to intrude but I think I can answer some of those questions! :)

I was waitlisted with 3.89 GPA, SAT 2320 and a couple of 5s on APs. I’m a first generation high school graduate, Asian, low income.
An admissions officer called yesterday (April 29th) afternoon and was asked if I was still interested, etc. I thought waitlist decisions didn’t even start until May 1st, so I freaked out!

For supplements…I seriously think my letter of interest did it for me. I reiterated that I would enroll if accepted since Rice was my top choice, and let them know about this invitational musical festival in March where I got to work with a world renowned composer for like an hour. It was really genuine (imho).
I’m from New Orleans, LA. :D

hmmm dang, I didn’t get a call
Hopefully this was just the first wave of acceptances out of a couple more to come…
Congrats all of you who got in though!

Wait, so phone calls = admitted? I told the ad officer that I’d strongly consider Rice, but I wasn’t aware that it was an admission… or was it? Confused :/

I first got that email and as I said I’d strongly consider it positively, she later sent me an email of congratulations! maybe you should just wait

A girl from my school who was waitlisted was contacted by Rice. There are only two of us who applied to Rice…Do they review by region? Do I have any chance? :(

She’s not interested, so she’s gonna decline the offer. She didn’t even send any additional stuffs, and I sent letter of interest and a resume in…

Good luck to everyone waiting to hear from Rice!!
There were 6 kids accepted at our school, but only 2 decided to go. So hopefully some of those spots went to y’all.

The number of students on the waitlist is probably higher this year since last year’s yield was so unexpectedly high. This means the number of students accepted off the waitlist this year may be higher than usual! Good luck. :)

Got a call from Rice on Monday. They said i was accepted off the waitlist and they prepared my aid package and got everything ready for me. I’m sure there are more waitlists coming so those on the waitlist don’t write yourself off.
