I'm a franco/american student living in California and I got waitlisted to Arts. I have a 2130 SAT and 700 on both US history/French subject tests. My GPA weighted is about 3.67 at a very competitive high school so yeah I was good enough to get waitlisted. However, McGill is my number 1 and if I don't go there I'll just go to a community college in the US and try to transfer later. But I want this more than anything right now. My strategy is to send them an email telling them of my situation, how I lived in France and in the US and how I would be an asset to the school and how I want to be challenged and if I am accepted I WILL GO and not request financial aid (some of these tips I saw on another CC thread). Additionally, I'll send this to them in the form of a letter/postcard, and I am probably going to call admissions. I feel like telling them that I'm going to Beijing over spring break with my school orchestra to perform at the request of the Chinese Ministry of Culture, I am about to become an Eagle Scout, among some other ECs.
I know this could be futile in the end, but you can't let what people say get in the way of what you want (aka admissions doesn't care about that, they wont look at it, etc) I believe that if you want the moon, you go and get it. So, what do you guys think of my ideas, and do you have any of your own I could use? Thanks in advance, please above all wish me luck that I get picked up off the waitlist soon!

Why go to community college? I’m sorry that you did not get into your number one choice, but were there any other schools that you applied to that you liked at all? Give those schools a second thought. You could get to one of those schools and really enjoy yourself, and if you don’t THEN transfer to McGill.

But I don’t recommend community college. You sound like a stellar student who deserves to be challenged. Good luck to you =)
