I was waitlisted to my dream school a few days ago. Although I was expecting a rejection, I still want to give my best shot at being admitted. I am planning on writing the school a letter and making a call or two within the next month. Does anybody have advice regarding what I should say in the letter or on the phone? Or even a different approach I can take? In the meantime, I will be choosing between three schools (Boston College, Villanova, and Binghamton) to pay my deposit to, as I anticipate my attendance at one of those three. Any suggestions are much appreciated.
What’s you dream school? You have some great options in hand.
Thanks @doschicos I know I do. I truly would be happy at any of those colleges. I just don’t want to give up on my dream since there still is a slim chance. My dream school is the University of Pennsylvania. I visited Penn over the summer and really liked it there. I would be amazing to have the opportunity to study there.
Well, it can’t hurt to appeal your decision. All they can do is say no. You can also kick ass freshman year at another college and apply as a transfer. You h find that you’re happy with one of your other choices by then, though. And there’s always graduate school.
Thanks! I just need some advice on what I can do to further improve my chances
The most important thing in a waitlist letter is to unequivocally say “if I’m admitted, I will attend” at some point. You should also talk to your counselor and see if he or she can lobby on your behalf. School support can play a big role.
@marvin100 I talked to my guidance counselor yesterday and she said the same thing: say “If I’m admitted, I will attend”. I am definitely going to use that in my letter, I hope it works out.
I’d also express pride that you’ve been so seriously considered. DO NOT focus on feelings of disappointment. NO guilt trip. Really. Zero.
