Any responses, please?

A lot of students that get accepted to Macaulay are students from specialized high schools in NYC. I go to one and was accepted with stats a little lower than yours. I guess reputation of schools play a big role. There aren’t many spots either.

I, too, find it hard to believe that MHHunter waitlisted you - your stats are outstanding.

Is there any hope of getting off the wait list? This is my first choice school.

How do waiting lists even work? Is a student picked randomly off the waiting list or are students ranked in some order?

As a current Macaulay at Hunter student my only guess is that the admissions committee either questioned your commitment to the school or thought that you were not well rounded enough. In my eyes you’re an outstanding applicant. Its a damn shame but sometimes these decisions are just too arbitrary. Although Macaulay at Hunter hasn’t really used the wait list much in past years something tells me they were pretty conservative this year and there might be some movement. Best advice I can give you is to write a note, just a page, reiterating your interest in the program. Try sending it to Johnathon Schoenwald, the director of Macaulay at Hunter. Can’t hurt to try!

Best of luck, I really hope you ultimately get in.

Regards,
Mike

Don’t worry about being waitlisted at Macaulay. Since it’s gotten pretty popular over the years, there are more people interested than they can accept. Many accepted choose not to go so you might be taken off the waitlist. Students who got waitlisted at Macaulay get accepted to other great schools so don’t worry. Macaulay is known for being unpredictable with admissions.
