Had I got into SCS, I would have double majored in Computer Science and Math. However, I did get into MCS and I was wondering, as long as I double major, can I do both Comp Sci and Math from the MCS?

Thank you and congratulations to everyone,
EddieD

I have a similar question…my son was wait listed for CIT, and accepted to MCS. He wants to study biomedical engineering. Assuming he does well at the start, is there a way he can somehow achieve his goal of a Biomed engineering degree? Ultimately he wants to earn a Masters.
Thank you

At CMU, biomedical engineering is still exclusively a double major. So if your son takes the appropriate pre-reqs (biology and intro to Biomedical engineering), he’ll be on his way to getting a biomedical engineering double major on top of his current major.

This is assuming that the biomedical department hasn’t finished developing their single bme degree yet (which the dept head was talking about last semester). If you have any more questions, feel free to pm me :)

Edit to be more on topic: If you do what bco09 suggested, use 21-127 to confirm that you really want to get into SCS. You will have to see more of that if you get in, and you really need to have a firm grasp of basic discrete mathematics.

Just succeeding in 21-127 and your programming class may not be enough i believe, just strong indicators
During a group advising meeting, someone asked this question, and the reply was that after 211 or 213, you have a quick talk with Stehlik and if you did well in either class you’re in.

I am myself confused what I want to do but I am curious to know what does this waitlist mean and can I like double major since a lot of stuff will be common/similar ?

It is very common to double major at CMU. There are many combinations you can do without alot of extra classes. Math/SCS is a very compatible major, and you do not have to be accepted into SCS dept to double major. Of course, when you realize how much work the programming classes are, you might just decide you really want to do well in the weeder courses and get into SCS so you don’t have to do anything extra.

@busdriver11: Do tell. I would not want to be the person who has to sit through both 15-251 (Great theoretical ideas of computer science) and discrete mathematics.
