Waitlisted UCLA

So I was waitlisted today and I realize decisions won't come out until june. But, can anyone answer some questions for me that weren't answered by the FAQ. Basically wondering if it's worth my time or if I should move on to my safety schools.

How likely is it that I will be admitted off the waitlist?

How many people estimated are waitlisted?

Do I still get financial aid or do they give all of it away before then to people actually admitted?

My daughter got off the wait list last year two days after she SIR’ed to UCI (because of the deadline) . We made sure we SIR’ed to the back up school (UCI) and I suggest you do the same.

She still got the financial aid even when she got off the wait list. From what I read there was 150 total who got off the waitlist.

"For Fall 2012, UCLA implemented the waitlist process. The campus received 3,850 California resident SIR and pulled 150 California residents off the waitlist, thus meeting the 4,000 California resident enrollment target.

@GoldenStatez I was waitlisted too this year. Rough - but hang in there, consider it an honor to even be waitlisted (in my opinion, UCLA is a pretty hard university to get into).

I’ve read that because of over enrollment of the class of 2015, UCLA implemented a waitlist process last year. About 2,900 students were on the waitlist out of 5,000 that were offered. So, I think this year we could expect the same.

As for stats on admission to UCLA, they said they denied over 58,000 applicants and had over 81,500 total. Last year they had 72,697 applicants with 15,982 accepted and 5,621 enrolled.

This year, approximately (if in ratio) 17,917 students would be offered admission. I have a feeling that us (the waitlisted 5,000) are hidden in that figure somewhere.

Does anyone have an idea of how many students UCLA has put on its wait list and how many it takes off its wait list?

My son was wait listed. 3.9 GPA, 2230 SAT, Summer internships at Salk Institute and UCSD Supercomputer Center. It’s mind-boggling to me that he got passed over. Sad commentary on the state of California’s higher education system, IMO.

I’m upset that I got passed over as well so I guess your son and I along with my friend are all in the same boat.
I know people who got in and (in my opinion) were less qualified. Because I got a 34 ACT and a 4.2 GPA and go to a nationally ranked high school and with numerous sports and volunteer ECs.
But I guess we’ll have to wait :)

Your ratio estimate doesn’t work…Just because more people applied doesn’t mean they’ll make proportionally more offers. If their target enrollment number is still the same, then they’ll make a similar number of offers, despite the increase in applications.

Hi everyone,
Does anyone know if it makes a difference when we opt in/accept the waitlist offer? Or anytime till the 15th is okay?

Also, do you think what major we put down makes a difference?..

And what do we write in the additional info?..

Hi Engineer64, I’m a mother of a waitlisted student and was wondering if you accepted any financial aid at UCI? We received our offer from UCI but am hesitant to accept it since my daughter would accept a UCLA admission. Any suggestions?

Is there any chance of them notifying us before May 1?

No there is no chance it will be before May 1

I am waitlisted at ucla , sat 1 - 2030 , sat 2 - 1580/1600 and i am an international student.
Chances if admission depend on a variety of factors - geographic location , major etc.

Aubrey, I would suggest that you SIR to UCI (will cost you 100 dollars-non ref) in case your kid dont get off the waitlist(you dont want to lose your UCI spot). UCI have deadline to put in your SIR that’s before UCLA release their waitlist —uggghhh. No worries Financial aid are not finalized till you actually register and enrolled. Yes we got financial aid from UCI and UCLA. Good luck

I am an international graduate applicant for master of architecture at UCLA. and I was wait-listed too for fall 2013.

I had a strong resume and several research experiences published related to my interests. with many extracurricular activities. But my weakness points was language proficiency skills which i could not sent them a great score.
I wonder if anyone can tell me, considering that i had covered all of the admission requirements except a satisfactory TOEFL or GRE scores, How much i have the chance to get admitted.
I have contributed with several of faculty and they know me well, should i write to them about my enthusiasm regarding studying there or should i just wait?
Will it be also beneficial to acknowledge them that i am taking new tests to improve my scores? will it be helping?

Engineer64, if you don’t mind, what was your daughter’s resume like? Was she an in-state applicant and what major did she apply as?

Engineering is the most competitive major!

I still haven’t heard from MIT. They put me on the wait list 3 decades ago. I think of it as a “slow no.” My son was wait listed too. Engineering. He had a job in engineering, and took 5 technical electives, above and beyond 4 years of science, and 4 years. of math. All 5s on his 4 APs. 800 Chem, 790 level 2 Math, 2120 SAT. He had 5 semester B or B+ grades - all in AP subjects. Engineering is tough.

Despite impressive stats my son was wait-listed three years ago. He joined the wait list, listed his first semester grades (all As) and added some recent awards, accomplishments. He was admitted off the waitlist the first round but ended up going to Berkeley as a Regents Scholar. Financial aid package at UCLA was similar to what the other UCs gave him.
