My D's waitlist letter said she could be accepted up to July 1.... Does anyone know what is happening to the Waitlist this year? Has anyone on it been accepted?

20-25 available spots

telephone notifications and "acceptance off the waitlist" letters were sent out starting around early-mid May

my guess is that most if not all waitlist spots have been filled up

i remember that around 5 or so people on facebook announced that they had been accepted off the waitlist. if that's in any way representative of the entire waitlisted population, i would say that those 20-25 available spots have already been filled. sorry :(

In theory, they're supposed to tell you whether or not you've been accepted or not, so you shouldn't give up until you hear for sure. And the waitlist is still open...my madre called anonymously.

ckg that is awesome. do you think if i send in another letter with an update that i got a 4.0 this semester (grades dont come out until june 21st) but i tell them as soon as i get my report card i'll send it that it will help. i would also mention that i will go if accepted. letter too late? or what?

it will probably actually ending up hurting you.

About 20-25 were taken off the waitlist the beginning to mid May. These were taken because 20-25 less than expected accepted offers of admission to Penn. Between then and July 1st some who were accepted regular decision will get off the waitlist somewhere else and decide to go there. Then there will be some more spots.
The best advice I can give is to write two letters. One to the Dean of Admissions and one to your regional admission officer saying you will definitely come if accepted. If you got into other top schools I would mention that as well but say Penn is your first choice. You should also email your regional admission officer

have we all reached the end of this road?

yeah, my mom asked me about this yesterday and i told her i wasn't holding my breath anymore. i really wanted to go to penn (and still would if i could) but honestly, at this point i think it's like searching for a needle in a haystack

what time did they notify everyone last year? anyone emailed the office lately?

Another thing I was curious about was, did all the people, who got calls during mid-May, received (and confirmed) their acceptance packages?

I got a phone call, but never got the packet, and when I called again my admissions officer said that there was still a possibility of getting accepted through June, but I doubt it.

Goddamn It, Just Tell Me Already.

Here is advice to those who got a call but no packet:
Initially 20-25 got a call and a packet. There were others who got a call but did not get the packet because the spots were not offered to them at that moment, but rather regional admission officers most likely were able to call some of their favorites who did not get in and made the waitlist and get a handle on whether they would come if accepted if there was a spot later on. The initil 20-25 were probably offered spots because Penn undeestimated the yield slightly. There will be some additional spots that will be offered to those who decide at the last minuite to go somewhere else.
My advice is to highlight to the admissions office that you received the telephone call. Call, and write the regional admission officer and the Dean of Admissions and tell them that you were so excited to get the call and that you have been hoping that you were offered a spot and would go if accepted. Make sure you tell them you are planning to attend a school of equal caliber to Penn but would love to go to Penn over that school if offered the spot.

I am truly offended by the way UPenn has handled their wait list process. My D was NOT among the people who received the "phone call" in May, so it is safe to assume that she will never be offered admission. So why doesn't the school contact the hundreds or more students in her position and just say - no thanks? I called UPenn two weeks ago around the time of my D graduation because she had that blue final transcript request form. I asked, if at this point, I should bother to ask her counselor to fill this out. I was told no, that if we hadn't heard anything then she would not get an offer. So I asked when the letters would be going out to the wait list and was told "in a few days". Well more than a few days have passed. I understand that Brown kept some kids on its waitlist but sent letters to those who were not under consideration anymore in mid-May. That seems like a reasonable way to go. And the bottom line is - most kids do not check CC to find out the inside dope. They don't know about this 20-25 number who received calls. They are probably still sitting there being hopeful. And what is it with the policy of calling people and telling them they might get an acceptance? My D got a call from one of her waitlisted schools on May 5th with an offer, not a maybe. At this point she no longer hopeful and pretty set on her choice, but why should she get a letter in early July telling her she wasn't good enough if they knew that back in early May. Seems rather unnecessary and thoughtless to me.

I agree 100%.

so i got my rejection letter today after waiting (again) for three months. i'm sad i won't be going to penn in the fall, but i'm gonna try and make the best of things at the school i am going to. and if all else fails, maybe i'll apply as a transfer next year... thanks for all the support throughout these long months, fellow penn cc members.

Jeez...since I'm not living at home anymore, I'm going to have to hear my mother tell me that I was rejected over the phone. Can't wait.
