Whoa- 29,000 applications for a freshman class of 1650? Son was waitlisted- we’re crushed. This is our first (and only) college admissions process- what now? We were thinking he could ask his high school college advisor to call the admissions at WUSTL to tell them what a great fit he’d be there, our son could contact the school for an interview to “up” his chances to be moved from “waitlist” to “admitted”. Any other suggestions? From his HS class of about 500 kids, 5 of 7 were waitlisted, and the only 2 admitted were early decision. What’s your experience with WUSTL?
Just want to say this - while you (well, he) can do all of those things, make sure you don’t get your hopes up about getting in off the waitlist.
It is very common (as in, I swear we see it every other year) that wustl will completely fill up the class from admitted students and take 0 off of the waitlist.
Also, they’re not going to give him an interview. No one in admissions has the time for that right now, and alums do not interview anyone in this stage.
I got wait listed with a 2360 and a 4.71 weighted gpa, as well as varsity sport for 4 years, science internship at military university, good recommendations and hard classes- so I have no idea what happened
If WashU is still his top choice, I think interest would play a role in the waitlist. You could have the counselor call. I also think it wouldn’t hurt to email about his interest. Interviews would definitely be closed at this point.
I think there a many great applicants who were waitlisted and you never know how many they take off the list. Some years it is 0 and the highest I think I saw was 152. If the do take off the list, the college you applied do will have an impact on whether you are called or not.
@Ryan33: Did you ask for FA?
@blackteayum: Do you know if the two admitted ED sought FA? All of my D’s friends from last year’s HS Summer Scholars program at WashU who applied ED without seeking FA were admitted.
Applied for merit scholarships and FA. Would need one or the other to afford.
@Ryan33: Best of luck to you!! Just keep in mind that private colleges have a tradition of practicing affirmative actions for the well-to-do.
Thanks all- waitlisted with a weighted 4.5, 35 ACT, and we did apply for FA- otherwise, no way. Having some trouble adjusting to plan B for Hope College…
@studentath22 what places did you get accepted to?
Any one heard from WUSTL waitlist 2019?
Son was waitlisted and then offered admission to engineering school on April 27.
Congrats to your son.
I’m still waiting to be called off the wait list for architecture
Congrats. Any one know about Engineering/computersciecn wiatlist? Still waiting
Did u send any letters or any recommedations after that
No I didn’t. I just sent an essay/ letter of continued interest.
do we need to call them?
Well depends on you really, what exactly are you gonna ask/ say?.. But don’t over do it. It could create a negative impression.
Thanks you. I called twice already but they did not say anything until now.
