Does anyone know appoximately what percentage of students that are waitlisted for IU, finally do get accepted? Admissions said they will notify waitlisted students in June, so we are sending in a deposit to the #2 choice. Is it a good idea for my daughter to e-mail admissions to explain how much IU to her??
Thanks for your help!!!

I think it’s a good idea to email the admissions department IF there is new information. IU doesn’t publish the numbers that come off the wait list in it’s common data set. I know last year IU was surprised by the number of students that accepted admission, and took probably took fewer off the wait list. It varies from year to year. Is your D instate or OOS?

She got WL’d with a 3.7 GPA and a 1200? I’m starting to wonder how the hell I got in…

I’d assume she’s near the top of the waitlist. They barely used their waitlist last year though, so I hope things work out for you guys =/

Born2RunMom,

In 2008, about 1 out of 3 people were accepted off the waitlist (an estimate only based upon what was posted in a particular newspaper article).

Sending faculty letters that discuss an applicant’s strong points or significant achievements or drive/initiative always helps. The other thing is to keep showing interest in the school as long as possible. Many just presume that getting in is impossible;–it’s those that continue to follow-up that the university unusually accepts off the waitlist.

Good luck to your daughter.
