Waitlisted...what do i do now?

I'd really appreciate some help on advice about what to do when wait-listed. Does NYU encourage people on the wait list to send them a letter or other supplementary material or will they get annoyed if we send them too much stuff?
Thanks in advance :)

even i hav been listed by nyu:(
and its alwayz been my dream uni… i’ve applied to stern…
so… any idea as to what are the chances of getting accepted if waitlisted!!
pls help!!
thankz

ohh… n i hve another q…
as im an intl student… i’m plannin 2 pay a deposit in another uni 2 b on the safe side…
are there any other things i shud take into consideration as an intl student??

Anybody there?

definitely send in supplimentary material. new recs, new grades, etc. really show your interest because once you are waitlisted it really just becomes a competition of “who wants it the most”.

If I sent four recs with my original application, would it HURT to send another one?

And do the grades have to be an official transcript?

It should be official. If you want to send an unofficial transcript, it should be with the understanding that an official transcript is following very soon after (and that should be noted on the unofficial one.)

I’m not sure what to tell you about your fifth letter of rec. If I recall from 2007-2008 app season, they only wanted one to begin with.

Missamericanpie had great waitlist advice here.

I know students who even sent in information regarding what other schools they were accepted to. If you were accepted to Fordham or other NYC area schools make sure to mention that, because NYU competes for students with these schools.

The NYU Admissions Forum says waitlisters should write a letter stating that NYU’s their first choice.

“Be sure to respond on-line to the wait list offer. If NYU is definitely your first choice, send a letter in to that effect and we will put it with your file - it can’t hurt!”

Hey guys I just wanted to clear up something I’m a bit confused about. Okay so I’m just gonna use USC and NYU as examples to make it easier.

So I got accepted to USC Marshall and waitlisted at NYU Stern. Let’s say I get admitted off the waitlist and would enroll at Stern over Marshall. If I already notified USC that I intend to enroll and sent in the $300 enrollment deposit by May 1, am I still legally able to withdraw and go to NYU after learning of my acceptance from the waitlist?

Thanks.

i hate to be teh bearer of bad news… but NYu barely accept anyone of teh waitlist. thats why they have LSP.

They took off about 53% of the people on the waitlist last year…it will probably be the same this year too especially with the economy.

@kmz yes it’s totally ok to send in your deposit and withdraw if you are admitted off of a waitlist. Now i’m not positive you will get your money back, because that varies from school to school.

Hey kMz, i am in the same position. Accepted Marshall and waitlisted Stern. I Will definitely take Stern if I get in but am sending my deposit to USC as a backup. Lets hope we both get in at Stern. I think stern is way too cool while Marshall is just not on the same level (though it is great too)

Thanks guys! and i hope so too krispykreme, best of luck to both of us :)

where can you say you want to be on the waitlist online? Can anyone send me a link because all I’m doing is sending a letter but I don’t know how to find anything on-line for them.

anyone waitlisted for stanford???

Do you have your waitlist letter? There should be a link in the letter.
