Waitlisted... what to do?

Hey guys, I was waitlisted from Lehigh University, but I'm still very interested in getting accepted to Lehigh. Is there anything I can do or should do to potentially make my chances higher?

Also, why do colleges get back to people so late from waitlist? I feel like it is stupid when most other universities require a deposit by May 1st, and if they get into their waitlisted school and choose to go there, they lose their first deposit.

i was too.

Have you visited? If you haven’t, I would.

If you have any updated grades to send that are good, I would send those.

I would also just call the admissions office and personally ask them what you could do to get off the wait list.

The reason schools take people off their watilists so late is because they have to wait for those admitted who decide not to attend to tell them. Some students tell the schools right away to make way for waitlisted students, however, I venture to say that many just don’t say anything and the Uiniversity has to wait until the May 1 deadline is missed and then assume the student is not attending.

Thank you guys for the responses.

I have visited Lehigh, and loved it there.

To be honest, my grades are not up to par this quarter so I believe I should avoid sending it to them.

I will contact the admissions office on Monday, is there anything I should do?

Lehigh historically has a huge wait list and very few are accepted off of it. It’s not really a wait list, I call it the “letting you down easy” list, because they don’t want to tell you that you were rejected. Very polite of them, but it raises false hopes.

I had no idea Lehigh had such a big unused waitlist. If I were a student in that position, I would rather just be shot down and spared the misery - college searching is stressful enough without all of the B.S. I hope folks on the waitlist recognize the statistics and don’t get their hopes up too high.

I could have sworn I saw a statistics from 2009 that half the wait listed were accepted…
