If Brandeis was your first choice, you should have applied ED.
I’m guessing that they thought you were not going to enroll anyway, hence the WL.
Did you have an interview, visit, etc?

amidoneyet, if you are close by, I think it is worth visiting the admission office (with an appointment). You seem like you could have a great case for being accepted. Seems like they’d want someone as bright and as committed to Brandeis as you are. I think personal contact is the best (visit or phone); email or snail mail is too passive.

Question: Does anyone know how long you have to make the commitment, if you are offered a place from the waitlist? A few days? A couple of weeks? We might be able to squeeze in a visit, if there’s enough time.

Our admissions rep suggested e-mailing her directly. And regarding essays, they are asking for an additional letter of interest and update - I’d consider those “essays,” as much as any other. One of the original essay prompts was “Why Brandeis?”; my D wrote on something else, so I’m figuring now is her time to write that one.

My D’s stats were a bit lower than amidoneyet, so I’m guessing that her essays were what sparked their interest. Since you can’t change your stats, but could write more about yourself now, I’d say essays are important in the WL try. D has good ECs and has had a few more accomplishments since she applied, but no national awards or anything. She just shows good, sustained dedication and effort in her areas of interest (mostly the arts).

I also think writing additional essays would be helpful. Write about why you want to attend, what you would contribute to campus, and any recent accomplishments.

D got a call late this afternoon from her adm rep at Brandeis. The rep sounded very positive, so I’m guessing it would end up in a WL offer. D was at a music lesson, so they’ll talk on Monday. I guess we’ll be doing some thinking this weekend!

I hope everyone who is really hoping to get in off the WL gets a similar call! Good luck!

About getting off the waitlist, I just got a call today (I’m in Cali) from the regional admissions officer who said that I’m off the waitlist. In terms of what I did, I only sent them a letter and called them once just to make sure they got it.

Good luck to everyone who hasn’t yet heard!

I got a call a few days ago! I’M IN!!!

Thrilled for you! Sorry you had a roller coaster ride but it’s over now.

TheeJerkStore, this is an old thread, and that’s not even the same type of waitlisting.
