Waitlisted with high stats and demonstrated interest?

Could have something to do with them developing a case of tufts syndrome.

I don’t think so…honestly.

I would like to plot the data on a Naviance-style scattergram. Just out of curiosity.

^Getting the data from CC would be very flawed though unfortunately.

What school did you apply to? Some are more competitive than others (ex: School of Management, School of Engineering, Etc.)

^ Another thing people aren’t considering.

I applied to CAS.

Another one.

^I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make.

^None.

…

I got accepted and my GPA was around 3.6 and my SAT was around 1900… That’s weird.

My Son Austin was accepted to the School of Engineering at BU, but we were so surprised he received no scholarships and didnt get into the honors college. He two tok the time to do all these extra essays and now I feel like it was a waist of his time. They said he didn’t receive BU grants cause his Financial aid wasn’t filled out completely. We didnt expect to get financial aid but did on scholarships. Bu is the only school we didnt get financial from.
I too am surprised at you not getting into BU with those grades, the only thing that it could be is they may have had many applications for the same major.
We feel its BU loss if her doesn’t go there, and he has been accepted to 10 other schools with scholarship money. Northeastern is an excellent school…

i got waitlisted as well…

3.8 UW
4.1 W
5 APs
2170 SAT
got good leadership ECs

the thing is, there are decent amount of people in my school that got in that have worse stats than me…

I applied to CAS but got into CGS with low scores 1770 sat and 3.53
Gpa. I’m not sure how that’s even possible because I thought I would surely be rejected. When I visited they said the average sat is 2000. I’m not trying to come across as paranoid or saying that this is the case for BU but I read that some colleges have sent out acceptances to the wrong people. Unc did it a couple if years ago. Idk though I just think its weird overly qualified people are being rejected and wait listed.

I can assure you that you were rightly accepted. Don’t question an acceptance because kids with higher stats got in, there are many factors in the admissions process and having high stats doesn’t make you invincible anymore. Honestly at this point and in the upcoming years, no school is really a safety.

I really don’t think it is yield protection. My daughter was accepted. 2210 SAT (not super score), 4.0 unweighted GPA, great EC’s,stellar recs, and lots of volunteer hours. She has also been accepted to Tulane EA with presidential scholarship, UVA, and Vanderbilt. Her financial aid package at BU is excellent.
On the other hand, she was waitlisted at UNC-CH. We are not complaining that people with 1800 SAT’s were admitted to UNC. I think it is just a matter of the admissions committee deciding who would be a good fit. We are expecting decisions from seven more schools this week. I am sure they will not all be acceptances, and I am sure there will be people with lower scores admitted to schools where she is rejected. Applicants are more than just scores!!!

^ Very well said.

BU had 20% growth in apps. Surprised at Waitlist and reject stats. I think demonstrated interest–visiting the school has become very important. By not visiting there may be an assumption that you view the school as a safety school and you are not that interested.

I didn’t visit because I couldn’t afford to fly out to boston but I made it clear that I was very interested in attending.

@crowe2003: EXACTLY! :)
