Waitlisted - Worried

Hi,

I applied to the Computer Science and Engineering major with an alternate major of Economics. I was a bit taken aback when I found out that I had been wait listed.

How selective is the Computer Science and Engineering major? Economics? How can I find out which major I have been wait listed for?

Also, this does not bode well for my chances at UC Berkeley and UCLA. I applied undeclared Letters & Science at Berkeley and undeclared Social Science at Los Angeles, are these less selective applicant pools?

Computer science is an impacted major at UCSD, so it’s more difficult to get into the major. However, UCSD doesn’t consider major in the admission process; they only look at your major choices after you’ve been admitted. I believe UCLA and Berkeley have similar policies.

You still have a chance at getting into Berkeley/LA. Each UC has a different admissions office, and sometimes applicants will get admitted into one of those more “prestigious” UCs but not into a not-so-prestigious UC. So don’t give up hope yet!

Thanks for the reply!
How do the admissions policies at UCSD, UCLA, and UCB differ?
Do the campuses differ on valuing GPA vs. SAT vs. ECs?

Well, they’re all looking at the exact same info (that you put on the UC application) and probably do consider all of them… But I doubt anyone except the admission officers actually know their specific policies and which criteria are weighted more/less, if at all.
