So after not ever receiving any notification for early decision on Feb 1, no return of phone calls or emails asking if he had been deferred and did they need more info...deciding to send first semester grades anyway...ds wait listed. grrrrr...no wonder their class sizes were low two years ago if this is how applicants are treated! So frustrated with my Alma mater.

ddd928 -do you receive the alumni magazine ‘Miamian’? Latest issue has an interesting article about efforts being made to make the admissions process more personal.

Yes, I do and did read that article. Only reason I called was because ds not getting answers via email and he was not getting home until after 7:30 each night due to sports practices, and couldn’t call himself. I called and emailed both our assigned counselor and the general admissions contacts…multiple times. Only answer we ever got was his password.

He just rechecked his status to read the letter again…nothing in mail today, even though we are just a 45 min drive away…and now it states no decision has been made! So if we hadn’t checked this morning we would just think the website not updated!!!

I can certainly understand your frustration. I have had my own concerns with Miami over the past year and their lack of communication. I don’t understand it. If they want to, as the article states, ‘be better known for our quality’, they need to do it, not just say it.

Best wishes to your son… I hope he gets good news very soon!

I also understand your frustration. Last year I had a problem with my
daughter’s financial aid being processed. After about a month and numerous phone calls it was finally straightened out. There was a lack of timeliness and communication on their part. And that was just so she could get her small subsidized Stafford loan.

Sorry to hear that your son was waitlisted! It appears that he would be a qualified student for addmittance. It looks like many schools are turning away qualified students the last couple of years. Applications to schools keep going up, as students apply to more and more schools. I also see more students applying to the state schools, especially with the economic downturn.

Good luck to your son at the school that he does choose!
