I applied ED and was deferred. And today i received a letter informing me that I am waitlisted. University of Richmond is my top choice and I would love to go there but I also really like Dickinson and now I don't know what to do. If I say yes to the waitlist and get accepted does that mean that I'll get last minute housing? And will I miss orientation or important days?

Wow, it seems like they waitlisted a lot of people. I was waitlisted too…

i also applied ed and got deferred and now waitlisted. Richmond is my first choice and if i end up getting accepted i would go in a heartbeat but i have no idea what my chances are… :(

Traditionally, being on the WL is not a good thing at UR (it’s not great anywhere, but UR has not used the WL much in the past).

That said, I imagine that they will probably go to the WL this year moreso than in years past. Enrollment numbers have been particularly high the last two years, so they probably accepted fewer students than normal. If the yield projections are off (and they have been the last two years), then there could be a decent number of spots that open up.

If you think UR is the place for you, keep the faith. If not, then don’t sweat it. Get ready to have a wonderful experience at another place!

i got waitlisted too it looks like they only accepted about 8% this year!!! so that might also mean that more people will be accepted off the waiting list!! but either way, you should be proud…8%…thats as tough as an Ivy league school…and we didn’t even get rejected
good luck!! :)

@runninglover Even though they expect to enroll around 770 students for the freshman class, they accepted more than that because not every accepted student is going to enroll. The acceptance rate probably hovers around 20-35%.

If my D’s school is any indication, there will be more wiggle room. I am aware of admitted students who do not wish to attend, personally and on this site.

I am trying to keep the faith – it’s pretty hard to have any right now.

D got wait listed as well. Disappointed but not the end of the world. We are NOT going to accept to be placed on the list. Actually it’s a relief for us as she already got accepted to another 2 fine schools. We need financial aid, and one school gave a lot. Still waiting for FA from another to make the final decision. If you need aid, be aware that accepting from the WL will have no guarantee for aids.
Anyway, good luck to all who wish to be placed on the WL!

I was wait listed also, Im thinking its because I didn’t interview. Richmond is my first choice but last year they didn’t take anyone off the wait list so chances seem slim.

that’s not true. i have a friend who was waitlisted and the website says they took 8% from the waitlist last year.

I got wait listed too
I’m considering Dickinson Too!

lovely, your info isn’t correct. Last year, 984 people were on the waitlist, and 74 received a slot. 3 years ago 140/810 got off the list.

Lovely - I do not believe the interview is a deciding factor. The on-campus interviews are very informal and, at least a year ago for my daughter, conducted by an intern.

To build on what PA mentioned, interviews are pretty informal, although I’ve seen signs that they are becoming more important. Alumni also give interviews.

@Spiders05 If interviews are becoming more important, it should be more accessible to students outside of the east coast. Students living on the West Coast/Mountain West are at an immediate disadvantage if interviews aren’t conducted in their area.

Son did not interview and he was accepted.

We were told that the interview was purely informatonal. So my assumption is that the only impact it had on the decision was a demonstrated interest on the part of my son (waitlisted).

Thank you for the correction, it’s one I am very happy to be wrong about. Maybe there’s a chance (: Does anyone know how many people we’re wait listed this year?

drop, it won’t become an important factor until the school has a way to conduct interviews and make it equitable to everyone. I don’t want to misrepresent that it is a factor. Just that I (a non-admissions affiliated alum) feel like they’re getting ready to make it more important. It currently has no bearing on your admission status.

If interviews become important, I am sure the university will follow the lead of Wake Forest which conducts live and Skype interviews. D was told purely informational. This seems appropriate as it was a student who interviewed her.
