How many people usually get accepted from Loyola's waitlist?

I heard that they didn’t accept any last year. Just what I heard.

According to the college ******* website, I believe last year they offered the waitlist to 867 students, 278 accepted the offer to join the waitlist, and then 190 actually enrolled from that list.

My daughter, who was waitlisted at LMU in Theatre Arts since April 1st, just found out that she has been accepted for Fall 2011. Now for our dilemma: in the 7 weeks it took LMU to decide they wanted her, she has sort of fallen in love with her 2nd choice school. LMU had been her number 1 school, and was very honest about encouraging her to accept and give deposit somewhere else while she waited, so this was done with their blessing. While she did NOT get in to her major of Theatre Arts at her 2nd choice school, she loved the vibe, the campus, and the students she met there. There is no guarantee she would ever get in to Theatre Arts there, since it is highly competitive. LMU is a much more selective school than the one she has already accepted, too. Any suggestions as to how to approach getting her to keep an open mind about LMU, attend the orientation this summer, meet other students from Theatre there? Ultimately, this will be her decision, but we think getting in to her major in a better college should be the deciding factor. Thanks for any input!

SoCalMom, my daughter and I just read your post and talked about it. she is going to LMU as a freshman in the fall in film production. she also had a hard decision to make about which school she should go to. we both were wondering what NY school was your daughter’s 2nd choice and what major did they accept her in since you said she didn’t get into theater arts. we’re coming down for the 20,21st orientation and have talked to lots of students and people about LMU to help her decide. i’ve had to help twins decide between lots of colleges that they applied to, so maybe if we knew what school she deposited at and the major and how interested she is in that we could help out. :)

Hi Takes2muchtime,
It’s funny how we tend to think our own situation is so unique! Somehow it is reassuring to hear others are still struggling a little with this decision. Our daughter was accepted to Marymount Manhattan, but did not make it into the Theatre Department. She is planning to major in Psychology, then try to re-audition next year. I completely understand the draw of New York City, especially for someone so focused on Performing Arts, but we hope actually getting in to Theatre Arts at LMU will be a bigger draw. We told her she can transfer after a year if it is not for her, and she can even audition again at MMC in the spring for Fall 2012. I really wish she could meet some Theatre students at LMU, talk to them, get the vibe of the department, but they are done for the year already. She is planning on attending either the June 9&10 (1st choice) or 6&7 (2nd choice) orientation to get some more information. Meeting other students at MMC in New York was what really seemed to seal the deal for her there, so I hope meeting incoming Theatre majors at LMU will persuade her to go there.

Wow, twins! I thought this stuff was difficult with one!

socalmom2, i sent you a message, but am not very good at this, so i hope you get it!

takes2muchtime,

I got it and sent you one too. Hope it went through, since this is all new to me! Our daughter decided on LMU!!!

@socalmom2 - you are very smart to go to the orientation - this will be the experience that helps your daughter make the decision. Our son is starting LMU in the fall, and of course, we hope you choose LMU, because we are excited and have found everyone, from the professors to the students, to all be so friendly, helpful and welcoming! Have you contacted LMU, to see if your daughter can meet with some actual theater arts students and/or teachers? We did this with engineering, and found it to be very helpful. Good luck with your decision - everything will work out how it’s meant to be!

vsmart,

We have found the Theatre Department incredibly responsive and supportive about putting our daughter in touch with other students in her major. She is really looking forward to attending the Freshman Orientation in June since she will have the opportunity to meet with other incoming Freshman in Theatre Arts. She is really happy with her decision, and we feel so great about having her there. Good luck to your student.

my status recently changed from “waitlist” to “currently under review” on my paw account has this happened to anyone else on the waitlist?
