Waitlisted

So I apparently those who have requested to remain waitlisted don't hear back until late May-early June. UO is my first choice college but my second choice's deadline to accept admission is May 1st. What should I do?

Meh, I was waitlisted at Cornell. =</p>

Right now, you’ll probably need to do the $250 (or whatever) deposit on your secondary option. Remember the aphorism, “better safe than sorry.” It’s a pain to have to pay the deposit to the other school, because UofO very likely might accept you, in which case you lost that money if you decide to matriculate at UofO.

Also, write them a letter that says that UO is your first choice college. It’ll take you 30 minutes and it will show the AdCom that you’re still interested in UO, which is probably a lot more than other waitlistees have done. In 2009, 96.5% of waitlistees were accepted. In 2010, 80.7% of waitlistees were accepted, so clearly the yield is quite high. With a letter saying that UO is your top choice, you’ll most likely get in.

I’d also go ahead and pay the housing deposit at U of O if you haven’t already. They sometimes are crunched for space so if you wait until you are officially accepted you might have trouble getting a room.

I’m in the same situation. I’m torn between UO and UCSB. I haven’t heard from SB yet but my UO letter of intent is due tomorrow, so I’m submitting it, as it’s probably where I’ll go. I’m from norcal too!

It sounds like this is an especially competitive year for admissions, which I’m guessing was driven at least in part by the national attention UO got from the football team’s success. Anyone here know the range of GPAs that put a person on the waitlist vs. being accepted or denied? My son will apply next year so we’re curious how hard it’s going to be to get in.

I don’t think it’s too competitive, at least in comparison to CA schools. I have a 3.38 and I was admitted

what does waitlist offered mean?

It means that you aren’t admitted yet. If you choose to remain on the waitlist they will evaluate you again now that the May 1st intent to enroll deadline has passed. They said they’d notify people on the waitlist by June 1st.

Most people posting here likely already have this information, but here is more about the UO waitlist.
