Hello all. I've applied to 3 schools for the fall 2011 school year.
West Chester University, the school I'd love to go to, wait-listed me

the other two schools I applied to, Stockton and Rowan, rejected me (ouch.)
I'm not really sure what I'm doing wrong, although I have been told this year is harder than ever for admissions. I am a B - B+ student, and although I had a rough junior year I explained why in my essay.

any advice on how to move up on the wait list? or potentially get in?
this is supposed to be the best part of senior year, and yet I feel like crap that I can't get into any schools :

Sorry you are disappointed but I think you need a different focus here. You should meet with your guidance counselor ASAP and find a school with rolling admissions and secure a spot at a place you can love before you worry about this wait list. With two rejections and a waitlist but no acceptances, you need better counseling from your school and its assistance in securing you a remaining spot.

I wish it was that easy, our guidance dept. does NOTHING for students
we are not allowed to even go while on lunch or in a free period…
I’ve been checking matches on collegeboard, it just sucks because I feel so behind (which, I am…)

Write to West Chester University. Tell them they are your first choice for a school and you will definitely go there if accepted. Update them on any new accomplishments since you applied.

Follow up with a phone call to the admissions office. Make sure they got the letter. Find out how hard it is to get off the wait list. Find out if you can go up there for an interview. Don’t give up, be very persistent. Make sure they know how interested you are in attending.

In general it is easier to get off a wait list at a State school than at private one. This is not a hopeless situation, don’t give up.

:) thank you very much for your reply, I’m going to give them a call on Monday to see if I can get an interview and I’m going to write a letter tonight. I’m an out of state student and I’ve been told they accept in state students first usually? I’m not sure but I am applying to one or two more schools just in case

Look for a local in state school that may still have admissions open. You’ll do better as a transfer with a strong freshman year. It might be the better way for you to approach this. I truly think you’ll have some good choices next year if you do.
