hi everyone. today the villanova admissions were released.... and i got waitlisted. yet i am in the top 3% of my class and have a 2140 SAT. 200+ COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS and good ec's and letters of rec. i am not upset but rather shocked. i thought i would get in. i got into bc, northeastern (honors program) and uvm (honors program). i am st
arting to get scared because i want to go to tufts, which is much harder than
vu. anyone else in this situation? particulary with villanova?

Twas’ a fluke?

Yes, others are in this situation. It’s good you have been accepted elsewhere. Whether you are accepted at Villanova or Tufts, not only are you safe, but you are learning that colleges and life aren’t always fair.

i’m in the same situation as you are. I mean Villanova isn’t my top choice or anything, but I’m shocked too. I have a 2100 SAT, top 12% in my class, 96.6 gpa, my essays were pretty good, and my recs were on the most part excellent.

As you will have learned on other threads concerning waitlisting, the schools want you to prostrate yourself and beg. They want to see new lists of new activities, awards, testing, and recommendations. Most importantly, they want to see that you tell them “[xyz] is my first choice and I will attend if admitted.” They want to see what rough beasts slouch from the waiting list muck, drooling and oozing desire, and then they will delicately tap your fevered brow with their teeny wand and admit you.

I’m in the same position as you (kind of)

I was waitlisted at Wellesley yesterday, and today I was waitlisted at Bryn Mawr. My SAT scores were on the upper end of BM’s median (2140), I have good EC’s, wrote good essays, and demonstrated a lot of interest. BM was a target school for me, so now I’m worried about my others.

@placido240- thats a great description

Things seem to be kind of nutty this year. I was admitted to Brandeis (USNews #31 rank) and waitlisted at Northeastern (#62) with combined SAT’s of 2320 and weighted GPA of 4.3. And Pitt (#57) admitted me to their Honors College with a huge merit scholarship. I sometimes wonder if the admissions folks are throwing darts!

I think lots depends on how many kids from your school apply, what the yield usually is, if they think you’re likely to accept or deny since kids apply to so many colleges now, and the fact that there are just so many of us, and so few spots!

In any case, best of luck to you!

Schools seem to be taking a lot more of a holistic approach this year. As I scrolled through the Northeastern decisions last night, I was pretty shocked. As a school known for caring all about the numbers, some really strong students were getting denied or waitlisted. I saw probably thirty people with much higher test scores than me get some unfavorable news while I was accepted. Then again, I honestly think such factors as attending a specialized magnet school, having a 4.0 UW GPA, and being involved outside of school will easily outweigh a test score. Everyone puts SO MUCH weight on the SAT score. I’m glad to see that it really isn’t the supreme deciding factor. It shouldn’t be. I’ve seen students who score highly as a fluke. A friend of mine got a 740 on the math section on his first attempt, yet on every other attempt, he was in the low 600s. The test is just too inconsistent for my tastes.

Yeah, I know. I got rejected from all the UC’s…which sucks…but I got offer from northeastern and am on the wait list at oxford college of emory university…ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…really nervous right now!!!
