Supplements about living with and taking care of my 83 year old grandmother, my aspirations to be a doctor, and my dedication to community

I got waitlisted too…Did you interview?

@MB0022- Unfortunately, I did not. I live in the Sacramento area. I do not recall there being one in my area, but I’m not totally sure. May I ask what your stats are?
Just trying to figure out what happened. I thought I was a strong candidate when compared to the stats of last year’s applicants :/

Yeah, every year Oxy is getting more and more selective, you can blame Obama for that, I guess.

Also waitlisted. I’m on spring break in Florida so had my aunt pick up our mail and read me the letter. She said only like 10-20 people get in off the waiting list, so I guess its basically a rejection. I think my ap was good and I made it clear Oxy was my first choice, so I guess they just didn’t think I would fit in.

@Matthew your stats are great, but its a small class and they seem to be giving lots of offers to east coast people.

Yes, very few will actually be accepted from the wait list. It’s just a total bummer, especially considering the average stats of last year’s class weren’t extremely high, and I actually had a lot of EC’s that I was passionate about too. Guess it wasn’t enough :/

Hard to know with schools who they take and who they don’t. I would guess this year all the good CA private colleges saw an increase in applications because of the UC and CSU budget issues. My son was accepted at Oxy. Attends large public high school in SF Bay area. His SAT I scores are comparable to yours - a little higher 2080 total. SAT II scores 780 each. GPA was lower. Plenty of APs. Far fewer volunteer activities but extremely passionate about one area - military history. Wrote essay about his job as docent at a famous WWII aircraft carrier now museum near Oakland and how he’s the youngest tour guide by 30+ years.

@jbrandemuehl- Thanks for the response. Guess competition is crazy this year. Just need to hear back from USC, but from the results I just got from UCLA and Oxy, I’ll probably hear the same thing, if not rejected. It’s just unfortunate, since I really wanted to attend a college near a large metropolitan area like Los Angeles that has more opportunity for me. Guess I’ll just have to choose elsewhere if I don’t get accepted into USC.

I got waitlisted too…</3
SAT: 2040, GPA: 3.94/4.0

You should be thankful. Oxy was my dream school and I just got my rejection letter in the mail today, saying that there’s no appeal process. I’d give anything to still have a chance, however small it might be, so just be happy that there’s still a shot.

I am from the East Coast, and was waitlisted. I am actually a bit surprised seeing as though Oxy was a match school for me…

What is the acceptance rate at Oxy this year?

Probably the same as last year - 39% since they had the same number of applications-about 6000

Ugh. I just realized how bad my ap must be if I couldn’t make the 39%.

It’s just a bit shocking if their admit rate is 39%. My friend has nearly the same stats as me, other than a higher score (ACT of 32),but he has FAR fewer EC’s. He got accepted and was awarded a trustee scholarship! I just don’t get these college admission processes sometimes…very frustrating

I heard that Pitzer was 15.7%
Could Oxy really be 39%???

6000.39.23(historic yield)=528

Pitzer gets more apps from people who think it’s a back door to other Claremont colleges

Waitlisted people, are you going to reply to remain in the waiting list?

I was waitlisted as well. I had a 3.0 UW and a 26 on the act. Im declining the offer though, I’m going to pitzer!

Did the wait list or rejection letters indicate how many kids were accepted and applied?

Hi. I got waitlisted as well. I am surprised because I thought I was a pretty good candidate.
2120 SAT, 29 ACT, 3.7 UW-GPA, AP classes, and I am from the east coast. I thought my supplemental answers were pretty good and I had an interview! I cant figure out what put my app into the wait list pile…
