Perhaps your race? I know my Latino Heritage definitely had something to do with my acceptance.

I don’t have it in front of me, but the waitlist letter said about 6000 applied and the class size is a bit more than 500. It said in the past that about 200 accepted the waitlist offer, and out of those 10-20 enrolled. It doesn’t say how many were accepted, but since the number of applications is almost the same as last year I thought the other numbers were probably also similar. I’m waiting til end of week to decide to about accepting waitlist.

I believe it’s less than 50 that are accepted from the waitlist of approximately 200 :(

Wow… 20/200? That’s TOUGH.

Hi friends!

This morning I got my waitlist notice via email… I’m almost afraid that the mail has lost my package (it’s hard living in Indonesia sometimes). Two of my friends got accepted, and considering how qualified they are I am surprised that I got waitlisted and not rejected! So in that respect I am quite happy I’ve replied to the counsellor and am leaning towards accepting my position on the wait-list.

Here are my stats:

------STATS------

SAT: 600M 760CR 670W
SAT IIs: 700 Literature and 600+++ Math 1 (I sent it to help bolster my lackluster math scores)
TOEFL: Internet based, 118, 30-30-29-29
IB PG: 34 total, 776 HLs of English, Geography and History, 554 SLs for Physics, Bahasa and Math (I should have been put in the Bahasa class for expats, but got put in A1 instead)
Rank: ???
Other stats: My term 3 report card was two points better than my term 2 report card, and one point above my PG (6 in physics!) Predicting an extra two points to my final IB score because of the Extended Essay (High B-Low A) and TOK (A)

SUBJECTIVES:
Essays: My friends say they really liked them, and I think essays are my strong point.
Teacher Recs: I’m assuming they were good
Counselor Rec: I think it was okay?
Hook (if any): I really think my extracurriculars were what helped me earn a place on the waitlist…

Harvard Model Congress Asia 2011 Outstanding speaker, 2nd place in two nationally ranked competitions, competed and won a few regional inter-high school debates (I was first speaker, one of my accepted friends was on my team), scriptwriter/leader/actor for the school’s drama club, part of the leadership team of MUN club and committed member of 4 years, section head and writer for Current Events on the school newspaper, History Award winner 2011.

Location/Person: Indonesia
School Type: International, private
Ethnicity: Chinese (minority)
Gender: Female
Other Factors: ???
General Comments: II really think that my grades affected my application a lot. The beginning of grade 12 saw a drop in my overall term scores as I had switched teachers.

How are you guys faring? And do you guys have any tips? Good luck everyone!

Matthew R - good luck with USC! You have a great profile.

I don’t understand how I was waitlisted here seeing as though, I am from the East Coast, I have excellent stats, and I am also an underrepresented minority in my community (0.05% Asian population). I was accepted to Pepperdine, but not Oxy. What is going on?!

Sometimes I think that this college admission process is conducted at random sometimes being that I got into UC Berkeley… oh well. I’m happy that Berkeley admitted me :)

Son got waitlisted, 4.2 GPA 1900 SAT, thought OXY would be easy to get in…but, obviously their acceptance rate is no 39%!!! They had so many more kids to select from, and they are big on diversity, which means “not white” so… Good school but will probably get more difficult to get into then it says by its stats.

MindySue, My D and I attended an informational session at a very selective school. A kid asked a question around having a great GPA, community service and test scores and the admissions process. The admission officer replied that if that is all you have " That is what State schools are for" I was floored"
