Waitlisted

I got waitlisted by email, and I'm wondering what the chances are of getting in if I appeal. Also, I'm not sure if it's worth it considering how expensive NYU is (I'm assuming this means no aid.) Yes, NYU is my top choice, but my parents don't like it that much (my mom said she wouldn't let me go if I got in anyway) and I'm not sure it's worth the hassle.

I applied to Steinhardt for MCC, but I'm willing to be considered for other schools and programs.

Sorry if there's already a thread on this; I couldn't find it.

I honestly thought I was going to get rejected by NYU with my grades (3.5 GPA, SAT is lower than 1900) but I got waitlisted too XD I had my heart set out for Geneseo because I really thought I was going to get rejected but I guess not anymore :stuck_out_tongue: My parents really want me to go to NYU, even if it means taking out a lot of loans.

I applied for the Liberal Arts Core program.

I’d like to know the chances too :o a lot of people are probably going to reject NYU because its too expensive, so we might have a good shot ? XD

@crossthrill I am pretty much in the exact same situation as you, except for Tisch film. Is it certain that we won’t get any scholarships/financial aid if admitted off the wait list? My parents won’t even let me respond to that waitlist survey yet because NYU probably will be too much money no matter what.

Waitlisted to CAS.

I’ve no idea :o at this point my parents are willing to take out loans so that I stay home & eat dinner with them every day lol… I hope that we get some scholarships/financial aid too because its so expensive :/

I’m responding to the waitlist survey XD My parents really want me to go.

What I read from their site was that they’ll give you need-based aid, but it doesn’t say anything about anything else… that doesn’t seem to be a good sign.

Can you guys post your stats if you don’t mind? Just basic stuff like GPA and SAT scores, etc.
I haven’t gotten anything from NYU yet, and I’m so so so scared. I feel rejection already, but I just need to know for sure.

SAT 1790
–Math 660
–English 560
–Writing 570
SATii
–US 490
–Math 1 650
ACT 28
GPA (out of 100) Weighted 89.87
I’ve only taken 2 APs in total during junior & senior yr.

Now that I think about it, my grades are pretty low for NYU lol but I think its because of my extracurriculars that I got waitlisted, otherwise I’d be rejected.

crossthrill, what school/major did you apply to?

They give very little need based aid.

Like I said earlier, the liberal arts core program :O

oh yeah, sorry. My bad =/
I have a friend with an 83 GPA (I think that’s around a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale) and he got accepted into Stern today.
I don’t know his SAT scores, but clearly one can never guess the application process. Weird things do happen.

It’s okay  & congrats to him ! I guess grades aren’t everything :open_mouth: I didn’t think my essay was strong enough though.

The latest to submit the waitlist form is may 1. There’s no ranking for waitlisted people, according to their FAQ.

Oh and, to those who are submitting the waitlist form, the last question asks what have you done since the application. How much are we allowed to write? In the past months, I’ve found myself a bit and I somewhat know what I want to do now, and NYU’s programs are literally perfect :3 I feel like writing an essay but it might be too much?

I am pretty surprised O.o. I have tons of friends who got 2200 or 2300 + and got flat out booted from stern ED1 and ED2, and me… with a 2020 got waitlisted… wow. Im one lucky ■■■■■■■.

Apparently they accepted 52% of their waitlisted applicants last year, but only 2% the year before. I don’t know what to make of that, haha. Gotta keep my fingers crossed!

So I filled out that intent to waitlist thing, but haven’t received my Confirmation email… should I send it again, or does it take a while for them to respond?

Waitlisted for Stern with 2240, 3.9 UW GPA, but so-so ECs. >_> I got into Cal Berkeley, but I’d love to stay closer to home.

I think it depends on which program you apply to. Some programs may be more harder to get into, even if you have perfect grades :O
