Yeah hmm. I also got waitlisted and my stats were 2210 SAT, 3.8 UC UW GPA; 4.3W GPA; solid E.C.'s and awards; strong essays (I’d like to think so). I really hope this is a case of Tuft’s Syndrome where they waitlist highly qualified applicants randomly to account for yield. Sorry if that comes off as cocky, I just felt that I had a better shot than a lot of my friends that got in =(

If anything, it could be because I took only 4 classes this year (although, they were all AP courses).

I’m going to be mad if this year they take out of state people over in state people from the waitlist I wonder how many people are on the waitlist this year…
Classes this year:
AP LIt
AP Gov
AP Microeconomics
AP Stats
Visual Imagery

@12345game10

Definitely not Tuft’s Syndrome. Very difficult for public schools like the UC system to get away with such. With that statement you definitely sound arrogant enough. Even with your stats, I don’t think you’d qualify as a Tuft’s Syndrome victim.

You have to take into account the major you applied as, and the other applicants you are competing with. Just possibly, the adcoms had already picked out enough applicants while your application was still in the pile or close to the bottom of the pile. Admissions are such a crap-shoot.

But please, try to stay humble at least.

AP Calc
AP Bio
AP Psych
Civics Honors/ IB
English 4 HL IB
AP Spanish IB

And I am a full IB diploma

@SwedishM8,

Yeah I understand. I was just trying to make myself feel better =/

As for my arrogance/cockiness, you have to understand that admission letters JUST came out. Some people (such as myself) are going to be upset and questioning the admission process. No need to point out my arrogance( a lot of people are going to be displaying behavior out of the norm within hours of admission).

I, however, am extremely sorry if I offended people or came off as cocky.

Swedish, well said.

For the record, last year they WAY overbooked freshman - this year all of Primero Grove transfer housing is filled with freshmen because so many people accepted.

Therefore, it is possible that they played it cautious this year with the admittance. While obviously I make no guarantees, it is possible.

Last year 46% of applicants were accepted, 14% got waitlisted, 38% of those waitlisted accepted the place on the wait list, and 0.4% of that 38% were offered admission.

So ya, if you were waitlisted you’re most likely not going to get in.

Don’t let it bother you, though. Schools reject students for random reasons. Just because you didn’t get into one school, doesn’t mean you won’t get into another.

I was also waitlisted. For those wondering my stats, I’m OOS, 28 ACT, decent-good EC’s, rigorous senior course load, somewhat special circumstances. It doesn’t bother me one bit. Out of the 6 UC’s it was ranked #5 on the list of schools I wanted to go to.

Don’t let this get to you. It could happen to anyone.

Swedish, if I had bad essays (I thought they were alright in my opinion, nothing exceptional but they were still pretty good) would that really make or break my application?

And I had 4 weighted (AP Calc BC, AP Psych, AP CompSci, and Anatomy/Physiology H) out of my 7 classes this year.

@syndragore, I think the best thing to do is to wait and see how the other UC’s pan out. Essays CAN make or break an application, but if you insist that they were decent essays, then I doubt that it was the factor. Just wait until UCSD comes out — I’m sure you’ll get in.

I really hope so haha. UCSD is my dream school so getting WLed from Davis seriously terrifies me.

@syndragore

If your essays are bad of course it would break your application. The essays are pretty much the only part of the application to view the subjective aspects of an applicant. Numbers do not mean anything. People are not numbers. Davis had a near 70,000 applicants apply. Lots of people have your scores/stats. If you are lacking on any part, consider yourself at a significant disadvantage. That’s the premise of competition, give the current state of the college application system.

Be nice to people please SwedishMB. You sound very … Disturbing… You would feel the same if you would waitlisted like everyone in here. I believed you felt disappointed when you got waitlisted at Case Wes Reserve too, didn’t you ?

@SoCal,

Exactly what I was thinking. He also posted in the other thread after getting into Davis with a 2300 and regents; he proceeded to call Davis a “decent backup.” (Note that he called me extremely arrogant in my previous post). Swedish, please be more mindful and understand that people who got rejected/waitlisted are not feeling the same emotion that you are.

@ 12345game : well said . I don’t see the poor of getting 2300 on Sat and heartless. Such a waste of a brilliant mind .

Well. I got rejected directly

Sorry to hear that Phoenix . You will get in somewhere else … Don’t worry., be happy hehe

@12345game10

Looking back, I see fault in my actions. I do realize that I seem overly hypocritical, in retrospect. I apologize. Let’s just start with a clean slate, eh?

However @SoCalGirlNguyen

I do find that premediated insult quite offensive, “Heartless” “Such a waste of a brilliant mind.”

I’m a freshman right now, and although UC Davis didn’t accept many people from the waitlist last year, the year before us, they accepted about 30% or so (If I remember correctly). I think their overall acceptance rate went down this year just to make sure they didn’t over-accept like last year, so hopefully for you guys, that means more people will be taken of the wait list!

@Syndragore I was waitlisted as a biological sciences major as well. My stats are very similar to yours. I have friends who also have similar stats, but got accepted with different majors.

This wasn’t my top choice, but it does suck to be waitlisted after being accepted to all of my schools so far.
