Hey all. Just thought I'd start this thread seeing as I just accepted my place on the waiting list.

i was waitlisted…is it worth it to save a place for myself? isn’t it fairly unlikely to be accepted off the waitlist?

I don’t think it is likely considering the letter said they’ve accepted zero students before. I’ve also heard 1000 are waitlisted so, that’s half as many students were out right accepted.

I’ll accept my spot and expect nothing. Who knows, man?

I’m probably grasping at straws here, but would it be possible for me to request an interview since I was never contacted about one initially (even though many other people in my area got one). I’m beginning to wonder if the lack of an interview might have been why I was waitlisted - even though they say not having an interview isn’t detrimental, I wonder if that was what kept me from being pushed over the edge. Oh well… looking at the odds of being accepted off the waitlist, they’re incredibly slim. I’m debating whether to accept my spot - I don’t know if I can handle the added anxiety.

does anyone know if those who got waitlisted get to go to visitas?

@mamel, I am guessing no. Every other school that’s waitlisted me has said they do not offer interviews to waitlisted students.

@dbar, that’s a definite no.

Waitlisted, but it’s okay Grateful for this whole experience.

Waitlisted as well, which was a pretty nice surprise. Already accepted into two places I’d love to go (McGill and Fordham) so I’m not worried, but I accepted a spot on the waitlist on the very slim chance that I might get off it.

Also waitlisted at Harvard, rejected from Yale and Princeton <–Ivy league is a total crapshoot. I’m probably going to go to Williams or UChicago because I highly doubt many applicants, especially a non-hook all-rounder Asian like me, will be taken off the waitlist. I’m happy with the schools I’ve gotten into already, but it couldn’t hurt to just keep my name on the list.

@firecracker3: Same here, rejected Yale/Princeton and waitlisted Harvard… such is life, I suppose. I really wish I could get off the waitlist, but I highly highly highly doubt I will be.

Same here rejected at YP… I hope that doesn’t mean the wait list is way larger this year

Heh, I’m another that got rejected from Yale/Princeton. Seems that there’re more than a few of us.

Anyone know if the same type of deal is happening at Yale and Princeton or did Harvard just decide to wait list everyone…haha

You might want to look into the archives for last year’s thread on how to organize the WL thread for this class. This is one of the things that is great about CC. You will find it a great community as your deal with the stressful next few weeks.

But–and this is huge–fall in love with whichever schools sent the congrats email. You need to have a bifurcated brain the next few weeks–working hard on the WL but also becoming emotionally committed to where you most likely will attend.

It you do it right, then if the call from the AO comes–and of course you accept on the spot–there will be a bit of remorse when you need to call and withdraw from the other college.

Best of luck to everyone. And congratulations for admission to all of the great colleges to which you have been accepted. You will have a brilliant experience regardless where you attend.

also rejected at yale lol (didn’t apply to princeton). so from what i’ve gathered the most we can do is send an email expressing our continued interest and then basically move on? is it better to send the letter asap or after may 1 when they start reviewing WL candidates?

No there is great deal to do. Check the archive-- there is much wisdom to be found there. but just a letter will not suffice.

You are, however, absolutely correct about moving on. Accept one of offers of admission --go to admitted student days with the psychological and emotional sense that THIS is where you will be going. Get excited. Buy the car window decal and the sweatshirt. Join the FB page. If lightening strikes and the Harvard AO calls you can deal with that later–but live in the what is–not the what I wish it to be.

I’m another YP reject but H waitlistee :)

Looks like in previous years they made a list of all the CCers who wanted to accept a spot on the waitlist to help gauge its size or something?

People who got off it were also kind enough to post so everyone else knew if there was movement on the waitlist

I know this is kind of early but does anyone know if they call admitted AND released students from the waitlist? Or are some people notified by email and snail mail?

@Rachelsophie, I was admitted off the waitlist and was notified via e-mail. Let me know if you have any more questions!
