My brother just got waitlisted.

The letter said they sometimes take 100 people off the waitlist in a year and sometimes 0.

Anyone on here ever gotten off the Harvard waitlist?

Of course some people come off H’s WL-- sometimes. The question is how many this year? That’s unknown at this point.

4 or 5 of my classmates ended up getting off last year.

Does anyone know how many people were waitlisted at Harvard? I know it’s very unlikely many people will come off that list, but am curious about how many were put on it.

Also, MikeNY5, any thoughts on how 4 out of 5 got in off the list from your school? That seems really high.

Mike, that is insane, yet great to hear!

Yes, I got in off the waitlist (to the law school). I think that I heard in June or July.

Nice, man. Very nice.

Dudes, I was just checking my bro’s Naviance account. We’ve got data for the last 3 years. Apparently 11 kids from my brother’s high school were waitlisted by Harvard…2 got in! Yeah, it’s a small sample size, but that’s shocking. What’s the national rate for getting off the waitlist? Like .5% or something looney? 2/11 is 18%!

Harvard has never published the number of students on their waitlist, but in past years both Yale and Princeton have – and the number has hovered between 1,000 - 1,200 students. That’s probably a safe number for Harvard, as well.

Since reinstating early admissions, where the yield is higher, Harvard has taken about 20-40 students from their waitlist. I imagine your chances of being taken off the waitlist are probably the same as your chances for RD admissions – about 3%.

Harvard won’t start going to the waitlist until mid-May, after everyone has sent in their decisions, so waitlisted students must move on, pick another school and send in their deposit (if applicable). If Harvard Admissions calls you after May 1st, that would be great, but in the meantime, you have to fall in love with the college that fell in love with you!

Thanks guys! Molly, I will definitely check out your guide. 18 pages sounds like you did the dirty work! :)

Does anybody know how I can send an update to Harvard? Or any school for that matter?
