Alright.... I got waitlisted at Grinnell. How much of a chance do I have of actually going to the school ( what were the past waitlist stats?) And is there anything I can do to better my chances now, or do I just wait?

yeah i was wondering the same..!!
they have diff policies for financial aid for teh wiatlisted??

From their Common Data Set for last year:

of people offered place on waitlist: 598

of people accepting a place on the waitlist: 225

of waitlist students admitted: 30

I happen to know one of those 30 people and she sent in extra letters of recommendation, an essay, and more. She got decent aid too.

The key thing is to show interest. You have to convince the admissions people that you're going to come. If you're a borderline applicant and you make a convincing case (writing extra essays, sending in more recs, making a nuisance of yourself by calling and asking the admissions people how to get in), your chance of getting off the waitlist is much higher than just staying on the waitlist and doing nothing.

"# of people offered place on waitlist: 598

of people accepting a place on the waitlist: 225

of waitlist students admitted: 30"

whats no. of ppl accepting a place on the waitlist??

People who agree to stay on the waiting list, and hope they get in.

ahh.. k (10 chars)

DON'T send in extra recs. I talked to somone in admission the other day -- they send they DON'T want those. New grades, new awards, new achievement/accomplishments, a statement about why Grinnell is (still) your #1 school. But NO NEW recommendations.

What about additional essays?

Only if it gives them more (new, different) information about you. At this point, it is very important to show them 2 things: what makes you an especially good fit for Grinnell AND what makes Grinnell an especially good fit for you.

What are your stats?

flutterbyhigh...the person who you mentioned.....is she an interantional student? and how good really were her stats??

No, she's not international. I know she had a 30 ACT and a 3.6. She was president of one club. That is all I know.

yea well...damn! ever heard of any intel getting through the waitlist?oh and thnx for those stats and info...

When are the waitlist decisions out?

AFTER mid-may....that's the guess...they get notified about the number of empty seats by beginning of may...and then they sit down with the waitlist applicants to decide....so um guessing after mid-may...WHICH IS AFTER 5 DAYS FROM NOWW!!!!! UM HAVING A PANIC ATTACK!!!!AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!

Anyone heard from Grinnell or has any information about this year's yield?

This quote from this week's student newspaper: "Sumner said that because more admitted students have sent in their deposits, it is possible that not as many wait-listed students will be accepted this year."

I heard from Grinnell on Friday. I was told that at this point they have accepted seven students from the waitlist.

So, Team, did you get in?
