does anyone have any idea how many people were waitlisted this year?

Me... so that makes two at least... my guess is 3 total sarcasm

haahha. wellllllll does anyone know about last year or anything?? and are the chances off the waitlist really really low?

Make that 4- maybe that added some extra after the Lacrosse scandal

wait...maybe im just really stupid and dont deserve to be admitted to duke lol, but why would the lacrosse scandal have anything to do with making the waitlist longer?

Is there a seperate waitlist for Trinity and Pratt?

yeah good question

duke may be afraid that more people will be turned off by duke after all the bad publicity following the lacrosse scandal. therefore, they might want to waitlist more people in case less people accept their acceptances after seeing the bad news.

jman1211, here's my $0.02. since waitlists are never ranked, it doesn't really matter if there are any separate waitlist pools. They take you off the waitlist only if you are a candidate that is similar and thus replaces a valuable admitted student who decided not to enroll. I believe that all waitlists are a matter of luck and that you can't really improve your chances getting off the waitlist. As WashU's waitlist letter says, the only thing that might actually improve your application and thus your chances is updating your EC list with something really worth mentioning. Besides this it truly is a lottery.

The Lacross scandal might have turned off some people who would have otherwise matriculated at Duke.
So, as a safety net, they waitlisted more people than usual.

for clarification, there ARE 2 separate wait-lists, one for Trinity and one for Pratt. Last year, since the yield was higher than expected for Trinity and much more so for Pratt, I believe very few or even no one was taken off the Pratt waitlist. A few (10-20??? I believe, sorry for the big range, I forgot the exact number) were given a place in Trinity.

I hope they didnt overenroll this year. The Pratt waitlist would be much smaller than Trinity's, right? But that probably means less would be taken off of it. Do they release the numbers after May 1st?

they did accept less people overall this year as compared to last. I guess they are trying to be more conservative after the overenrollment problem last year.
This is good and bad. The waitlist is probably longer than normal, but there could also be more spaces available this year.

Duke's waitlist isn't ranked is it?

I'm sadly hoping the scandal opens up my spot. I really want to go to Duke.

haha, same

When I was a freshman, there were - rumor had it - nearly 2200 kids waitlisted the year before.

On the other hand, I was admitted off of the waitlist, as were two of my closest friends - so it's not by any means impossible.
