how realistic is getting off the wait list at Uchicago?

It should say on the letter you received. On my waitlist letter it says over the past 5 years an average of 12% have beeen admitted off the waitlist. the acceptance rate has ranged from 6% to 29% in those 5 years.

how many people are waitlisted at chicago every yr?

bumppppppp

I'll join you all on the wait list.

Whats up =]

did I get ridiculously lucky by getting on the waitlist despite my ****ty scores?

Yay us, ya'll. I've joined the ranks of the waitlisted. Is there anything we can do to increase our chances of getting in?

Ughhh...Chicago obviously does not want me. I got deferred and now waitlisted...why can't they just tell me and give me a yes or no answer

smilies-did you update them b/t being deferred and then waitlisted?

im waitlisted toooooooooooooo

i got accepted to notre dame today... waitlisted at chicago.. i wonder how big of a chance i have to be rolled off the waiting list??? and also can someone tell me how this waiting list thing works??? like under what circumstances do they pick someone from the waiting list??

wouldnt all waitlisted ppl have a very small chance though?? even though on the sheet it says average 12%.. because i mean.. they accepted more ppl than they need. theres no way that they are not gonna have enough students to enroll at their school that they have to beg waitlisted students to enroll right??? so... what are the chances man... ay

As the earlier poster said, it has been as low as 6% and as high as 29%. I think this year it will be toward the lower end.

uhhh. What should I do to improve my chances of getting into chicago. I seriously love chicago and portrayed that in my essays etc. However my scores and grades are ridiculously low so........ Should I send in a letter of intent, awards, etc?

btw how would winning a special engineering award at a science fair affect my chances of getting off the waitlist? I was the only person to get it out of 500 people

iwannatopcollege: See this thread.

idad, what is your rationale for it being lower this year?

I'd like to know also, idad

That is merely speculation on my part. It just seems that the yield may be higher this year because of the growing understanding and popularity of the University. On the other hand, one could make the argument that with more students applying to more universities, many schools will be accepting the same students, thus perhaps lowering the yield. Nationally, about 1 in 5 get off the wait list. It typically has not been that high at Chicago.
