yeah, the acceptance rate this year was about 17%, which i believe makes us the most competitive liberal arts school in the country. but the reason why the rate is so low is because pomona is having a major housing crunch, so make of that what you will.

As of last year, Williams ruled for the "toughest to get into" LAC. According to US News and World Report, last year's top three were:

Lowest Acceptance Rates:
Liberal Arts Colleges

School Acceptance rate
Lane College (TN) 14%
Williams College (MA) 19%
Pomona College (CA) 20%

Think about this -- Pomona dropped 15% in ONE YEAR ALONE!!!!!

BTW, Lane is a special school in Tenn which is on a small small campus and is basically enrolled by African Americans -- and has an impressive history of 123 years.

Psykk- 17%? interesting. Did admissions come out with their stats for this year? Where could I find them?

Its actually 16% this year.

Can you post a link, or give us more info? That sounds incredibly low - wow!

hmmm, in my pomona letter they said that they chose 375 applicants from a pool of more than 5000.

That's not the correct set of numbers. Pomona accepts about 970 applicants to fill just under 400 slots in the freshman class.

hahaha, i read my letter wrong. it said that they chose from over 5000 applicants to fill a class of 375.

I think an article on this year's stats is coming out in this week's TSL on Friday. I'll try to post a link then.

im not sure if i'm sending my card in....

Ah yeah, I got waitlisted at Pomona also. Do they really let you know as late as June 28???

And does anyone know how many they place on the waitlist?

If you are really curious, you could email admissions and ask them how many people they think they might take from the waitlist this year. You may not get a definitive answer, because they may not know.
How many kids are actually on the waitlist is less important than how many they expect to take.

My son called and asked admissions. They said the waiting list was not quite 200. They did not know how many would come off due to the increase in applications. Just have to wait and see...

alright sounds good, thanks for the info
