So did you apply before 15 December 2006 or afterward?

I want to go to Carlson but I'm waitlisted. They gave me a spot in CLA but I won't enroll there. I really feel bad holding this spot. There seem to be alot of people who really want to attend U of M and are hurting.

I'm close to sending an e-mail to Admissions telling them my thoughts and asking if I can still be considered for Carlson if I turn down CLA now. My GC thinks I won't have a chance if I do this. What do you think? Does anyone get off the Carlson waitlist?

I applied October 31 and my application became complete the 14th of November.

Domino...what are your stats?

schreck- I'm in the published zone for Carlson according to their website. I don't like to print my actual #'s. I applied in August and heard in November.

Uhhh okay. Not necessarily a good basis of comparison. It'd just be nice to use a reference, although we've learned that numbers mean nothing. Especially when the average ACT for CLA is 25.8. I didn't pay the attention I did in school to get a 32 and get waitlisted at a *****ty school like Minnesota.

OK,OK yours is bigger. 30 ACT 3.7UW
I have no idea why you were waitlisted at CLA. You should either have or will get into other good schools and probably in April if you wait it out you'll get into U of M. What do the adcoms at large school admissions look for ? Someone did suggest to me that by being OOS, they may have thought I wasn't serious about attending.

The thing about "holistic admission," which the U of MN now claims to practice, is that it is unpredictable.

Yeah....this whole situation just kinda sucks. I did call and they said that an admissions counselor will call me soon. I also spoke with a counselor when I visited so I called him and left him a message. I hope that I will get some reassurance when I speak with him. I at least hope to get a legitimate answer for me being put onto a waitlist.

i can't believe how competitive it's gotten.
i was really disappointed when my application yo U of M CLA was postponed too

act-30
gpa-3.65
11 ap classes total
good extra curriculars

i admit my gpa could've been higher, but i heard that taking a tougher course load was better than weaker classes & a great gpa. they put alot of weight with senior 1st semester grades, so you should try sending those in too.

Wow. This whole process is so unpredictable. I applied to Minnesota and I got in CLA, while being postponed at Business. I have 3.4 UW and 30 ACT. How did I manage to get in, and not postponed like some of the people posting in this thread? I don't know if I can help clarify the situation, but I'm going to state what happened to me:

Toward the end of junior year, I was looking at good business scools in the midwest: Minnesota obviously on my radar. After taking the June ACT, I received a score of 30, and eventually mail from many colleges poured in like all of you guys. Minnesota sent me a fast application. It was free so I thought, "why not apply?" I finished the application very early, like in the middle of september. In october, a minnesota representitive called me twice and asked me genral questions about classes, my school, ecs, etc. And then I sent my ACT sscores there. Thing was that they didn't receive them until Dec.13, when I called the admissions office wondering what happened. A week after the Dec.15 deadline, I got my acceptance.

This is definitely shocking. I know of students at my school whose applications were postponed, but that was because their GPA & ACTs were weak. I can't believe students with 3.7+ GPA & 30+ ACT are getting postponed.

I was postponed from CBS, but got into CLA. I submitted my application sometime around the middle of September and didn't get my acceptance until the middle of December.

I feel bad for being accepted to the U now because it definitely is not my first choice. It's simply my safety's safety. I guess I should thank my parents for making me submit my U application so early.

Getting a 30 and 3.7 is all dandy, but colleges care what students are doing outside of the classroom. All colleges want well rounded students, not robots. On that note, I'm not saying those waitlisted weren't qualified or weren't involved in other things in school, it's just another thing to keep in mind.

I am not sure if timing on the application really matters. I applied in August and have not heard a decision.
I was accepted to Carlson in mid November after applying late October with 31 ACT and 3.93 gpa. I have talked to many other people who have been accepted to CLA or even Carlson and many had lower stats than you so I find this completely absurd that at the very least you didn’t get into CLA. Just my thought Maybe they bribed the admissions officers b-( jk
