My best friend just got waitlisted at NEU, and we are both in shock, to say the least...

She has incredible EC's (V swim team captain, great community service, etc.) a solid GPA (3.5) and a 1220 on the SATs.

I got in two weeks ago and even though my stats are slighty higher (.2 on GPA and 80 points on SAT) other people at my school got in with my friends stats or LOWER!!!!!

However, these peolpe did have 1250's on the SAT, but had never taken an AP class, ever (my friend has 3).

What is the next step? How likely is it to get off the waitlist?

She is crushed and I feel awful since we planned to room together and now our dream is shattered...

Hello WestchesterGirl, I'm worried I haven't heard anything about scholarship yet from NU. Actually, what makes it more worrying is the fact that though I sent in the common application online before Dec 15, I sent in all the other supporting documents by Jan 3. Does that affect my scholarship chances?

What colleges did you both apply to? I really think that makes a big difference as to whether or not you are accepted. The Criminal Justice school is alot easier to get into than Bouve or some of the Business programs.

Did they give your friend any statistics about the waitlist or when she might hear from them again?

D got waitlist letter today from NEU. i'd like to say we're in shock but nothing should shock us by now in the college admission game.

she had 3.3 w, 1350 SAT, 710, 700 and 670 SAT IIs, 30 ACT, 4 yr student council, jr class prez, 2 years varsity golf, loads of AP, including 4 as senior, and lots of volunteer/community.

friend of hers locally in Calif got in with a lot less and received scholarship to boot.

when someone figures it out, please write a book for my grandkids.

That really is crazy. I feel very lucky to have gotten in now. If she really wants to go there, I think she should call the Admissions office and talk to them. There are a lot of crazy things happeneing. All the people I've heard got waitlisted have stuff thats better than mine and I dont understand. And I don't think shes "overqualified" either. I know some school reject kids that they dont think will go there, but I don't think her stats are so good that Northeastern is below her. College is crazy.

join the club. and i mean that in a nice way. i was floored when i got waitlisted and my stats are very similar to hers. who knows what they're doing this year.

Wow, thats odd...I'm sorry for both of you, but don't give up, because there might still be a chance. I got my acceptance letter from NEU about a week ago with lower stats then the ones posted above. Granted I go to an intense and prestigious prep school in Los Angeles..but still. Here are my scores to compare:

3.6 w GPA
1180 SAT (Much lower then the scores above...)
5 AP's throughout highschool (3 this year)
Varsity Baseball and Basketball
200+ Community service hours (40 required from the school)
Community Service Honors Society Award

...And thats it for EC's. Most kids at my school whom applied to northeastern, did so as a safety, and I haven't heard from any of those particular students not getting in. Anyways, good luck to all of you.

awww man whats the deal with this school. my good friend got waitlisted too. SHE WAS IN TEARS. there is a reason she was crying though. this was her safety and she should have gotten tons of merit.

4.2 GPA
1360 SAT
Editor In Chief
ASB President
and tons of other amazing ECs

do they have tufts syndrom, did they not let ppl in who they thought would never go

i dont think northeastern would look at those stats and say: wow, this person would never go here. Those stats are great, theyre better than mine, but i dont think its "too good". If you look at the kids that got into the honors program and got full rides, they have 1410s and 1390s. I don't think a 1360 is "too good". Maybe they are in contact with another school that your friend got into, maybe her app wasnt in on time.... who knows?

It should say it in the letter. But basically, the school doesnt want to offer too many acceptances, because if too many kids go, they wont have room for them. Soo... for the kids they want to accept but dont have room for, they put them on this list. If AFTER may 1st, they have open spaces, they will offer them to kids on the waitlist.

My friends daughter was waitlisted for Fall 2005, but accepted for Spring 2006. I never heard of this before. Is it a good sign? She is desparate to go there.

I just found out I got waitlisted and I really have to say I'm very surprised.

SAT, and IIs-1460-760v 700m, 680, 720, 680
I'm in IB and have taken 3 AP tests
Tons of good ECs with plenty of leadership
GPA is 4.4 w, 3.7 u
I'm in the top 15% of my class in a competitive program

I was counting on a full ride and the honors program there, but I guess not now. No way am I waiting until June
