Whatever man. Their loss.

not in the mood to post my stuff but yea WAITLISTED. bahhhhh

waitlisting is the most terrible phenomenon to ever grace a college applicant's sad little world.

mindgame, n.
def: the act of being waitlisted at a school you pretty much want to go to (but you're not sure) when you still have 9 more school to hear from.

It's understandable that you would be disappointed. However, they are obviously think you are qualified (which is why they waitlisted you instead of flat-out rejecting you). Even if you don't wind up getting in, don't feel bad. Colleges are becoming really competitive these days, and remember that BC is just one school. You guys are bound to get into other great schools with scores like that.

Waitlisted too. I wish they would either have accepted me or flat out rejected me, but I'm already in at 5 other schools and I think I'm going to URochester, which is better in my major, so too bad, their loss.
Stats:
SAT: 1360
SAT II- Math I 700, Writing 720, Literature 760
6/224.

waitlisted....

i already posted this elsewhere but i guess this is the thread to commiserate on....i dont get it. how many people are on the waitlist, and why are such qualified applicants being waitlisted? No offense to BC, but there are a lot of lesser qualified applicants being accepted, and collegeboard.com lists their middle 50% for SATs between 1240-1410 (i know adding the two together isnt really correct btw), which isn't very good at all. so what's their dealio? I already got a likely letter from williams so i guess i'm set, but this bc situation kinda gets me ticked.

Take heart! Last year my son was waitlisted at BC. He was really bummed, but we decided on a new plan of attack. BC was his #1 choice.
Find out who is handling your case. Call them and politely ask if any additional info is needed. They may say no, but proceed. Write them a really nice letter thanking them for speaking with you. Go on to tell them how much you want to go to BC. Plead your case. Send recent grades, awards, newspaper clippings etc. Make sure it is new stuff. If you don't have anything new, write about recent class grades, how you are not giving up on BC and how you will contribute to life at BC. How will YOU make it a better place.
Place another call a couple days after those accepted have given their decision. If BC is your first choice tell them! Tell them you have not given up!!
I can't say that you will get in, but the staff has more discretion with the waitlisted.
We did not hear until late May, but finally received a letter. He is the happiest I have ever seen him. In fact he rooms with 2 other kids from the waitlist. They have bonded and declined to be split up when more space became available.
PS He was waitlisted at 3 schools. Was finally accepted at 2 and the third took no one from their w list. Good luck all of you.

I live in LA... but i'm not too upset..I got into WashU..way better school.. now im just waiting on Tufts

I'll add to this ever growing list of waitlisters...

SAT: 1390
GPA: 3.9
Strong extracurriculars: SGA, lots of service hours, church involvement

I kind of feel that getting waitlisted is almost worse than just being rejected. It leaves a false sense of hope that there's still a chance to get in (I know there still is a chance but looking at the others who've been waitlisted I'd have some tough competition).
I didn't realize BC was so super-competitive. I understood that it was a competitive school, but the average SAT is 1315, which should mean I was above-average. I guess I'm just confused...

Also how does waitlists work? They said they'd inform you whether you got in in late May, which is after many schools' deadlines to commit to them. If you weren't accepted off the waitlist, what happens?

I'm really not sure how the waitlist works, and I agree with you, will8587, on how being waitlisted could suck more than being rejected. Is Boston College your first choice school? If so, I'd really look into what joesmom had to say.

By the way, BC's EA average SAT is 1400, but that is for the Class of 2005 so I, too, did not know how competitive BC was going to be. Just reading the RD thread is really baffling. I'm sorry that I didn't have any significant information to share, but I wish you and all waitlistees who really want to go to BC the best of luck.

to all those who say rejection is better than a maybe, i said the same, but was rejected ed at dartmouth and immediately wished I was deferred. Its an incredibly tough school(BC). So, take what you get and if its not a "no," be happy with it.

WAITLISTED... Very perturbed/angry/saddened

RD

1390 SAT I

800 MATH IIC / 770 LITERATURE / 760 WRITING

3.6UW / 4.11W
over abundance of E.C.s
State-level musician and athlete
great leadership.

No interview.

I am waitlisted for 3 of my safeties. What am I going to do??

all of these schools have become so competetive in the last few years...now you can't even be safe at a school like BC with a 1450..JEEEZ

waitlisted... 1450. 4.2W GPA.

hmmm... looks like i should probably try to bring up my 3rd marking period grades. heh.

haha....no senioritis for some of us anymore...we gotta bring up our grades. Do they make u send them in????

looks like there is no more senioritis for us...we gotta bring up our grades... Do we HAVE to send our grades to them???

yeah i was waitlisted too. bc was my first choice so i'm gonna try to do whatever i can, however i doubt my gc will be encouraging/ willing to help because it was such a big reach for me.

what can i do on my own to help increase my chances of getting of the waitlist? i'm gonna write a letter as soon as i get my 3rd quarter grades but i'm very shy i don't want to call my admissions person on my own and i doubt my gc will be willing. i already had two alums write me recs. i think my 3rd quarter grades will be good but really no different from my midyear grades.

i applied to the lynch school of ed.. i think my stats killed me: 1300 sat, 730/650/620 sat 2s, 3.2 gpa (all honors)- however i had a 3.7 gpa 7th semester (all honors/aps). i also had good recs, great ecs (lots of leadership) and lots of comm. service (including church stuff). i also sent in my waitlist form asap.

the only other thing that concerns me is that about 6/7 of the 10ish kids from my school that applied, got in.. so thats gonna hurt.

any other help would be appreciated, and i'm going to take the advice from joesmom and i will see what i can do on my own and i'll try to get as much suport from my gc as possible.

also, does the way they take people off the waitlist have to do with the school you applied to or is it totally random?

thanks everyone and good luck!

Of the four kids (including myself) who I know who applied to BC, 3 were waitlisted, and one was rejected. Does it seem like an inordinate amount of people were waitlisted? I haven't heard of this many kids at anyother school to be waitlisted, so what's up? Does anyone know the numbers of how many kids were accepted/waitlisted/rejected?
