Could someone post a copy of the waitlist letter? I'm just curious to see what it looks like

The Admission Committee has reviewed your application and accompanying materials with great care. Out of respect for your record and your interest in Northwestern University, we are glad to offer you a place on the wait list.

Candidates on the wait list are not ranked. If spaces become available in one or more of our six undergraduate schools, we admit those candidates whose academic qualifications best match the openings. The number of students admitted from the wait list each year has varied from zero to 155 over the last five years. Because it is impossible to forecast whether a particular student will be accepted from the wait list, we urge you to accept a place at another institution so that you will have plans in place to continue your education next year.

Should you choose to accept a place on the wait list, we will notify you of your final admission decision by June 20, 2005. You may accept a place on the wait list by clicking the Wait List Offer button on the left side of this screen. Alternatively, you can wait for your decision letter to arrive in the mail, and return the enclosed reply card. Whether you choose the online or reply card response option, you must accept a place on the wait list by May 1, 2005.

Sincerely yours,
Aaron Zdawczyk
Assistant Director of Admission

That is one crazy last name. I don't even know where to begin in trying to pronouce it- maybe that's why I was waitlisted.

So, how many of you are/aren't accepting a place on the waitlist?

Hey waitlist people, I looked at the decision roster and not many of us put our stats on there. I was just wondering how we all compare to the people accepted, care to put stats here? I'll start off:

Decision: Waitlisted
Applied as a bio major

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 1550 (800 M 750 V)
[] SAT IIs: Math IIC 750, Chem 660, Writing 610
[] GPA: 3.6-3.7 (School doesn't have GPAs)
[] Rank: No ranks either
[li] Other stats: APs: 5 Calculus BC Taking: Chem, Physics, Bio
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: I thought they were personal and revealed myself well.
[] Teacher Recs: 2 recs: I don't know, but I assume they were good.
[] Counselor Rec: Again, unsure, but my counsler and I are close.
[] Hook (if any): Varsity Athlete (Cross Country, Chess, and Track); did research at University of Chicago and another project at Northwestern; 250+ hours community service; other activities and extracurriculars not as important to me

[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: IL
[] School Type: Public (it is a math and science school)
[] Ethnicity: Indian (Asian)
[] Gender: Male
[] major strength/weakness:
[] why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: Well, my SAT II scores aren't exactly spectacular, but I also didn't have time to study for those tests. My gpa is also low. Other than that I'm not exactly sure, just more qualified applicants?

[/ul]Other Factors:

The doctor I work under at NW wrote me an amazing rec. I also co-authored a medical paper that will be published (from NW).

How the **** did you not get in?!?!

SAT II scores too low? GPA too low?

Admissions person was at the end of the pile and decided to go quickly?

Admissions person had a fight with significant other and decided to hate me?

Actually, I have no idea... It seems like college is just the luck of the draw, but reading the roster thing, there are a TON of qualified people so I'm not too disappointed... I'd have issues if there were obvious discrepencies, but it doesn't seem that way so shrug.

wow hold on this is so weird, I also got waitlisted but my letter is like totally different from you guys…

"The admission committee has completed its evaluation of your application and at this time we are unable to offer you a place in the freshman class at Northwestern University. However, we would like to offer you a space on our waitlist in the event that we make additional offers of admission after May 1.

This year, we received over 25,000 applications for an entering class of 2,000. Given the relatively small size of the incoming freshman class and the strength of the applicant pool, we cannot admit all of the qualified applicants who apply to Northwestern.

Despite what may be disappointing news at this point in time, I hope you will consider our waitlist offer. To reserve a place on the waitlist, please return the reply card included with the official copy of this letter, arriving soon via mail. All candidates on the waitlist will receive a final decision no later than June 30.

Candidates who choose to be on the waitlist are not ranked. Should space become available, each applicant will be considered individually as we match candidates with our openings. It is impossible to predict how many spots may become available. In recent years, the number of admission offers made from the waitlist has ranged from 0 to 200. While the submission of additional materials is not encouraged, any academic information not previously submitted is welcome.

If you choose to remain on the waitlist, I encourage you to accept an offer of admission from another college by May 1. Whatever our final decision or yours may be, I thank you for your interest in Northwestern University. With your outstanding abilities and accomplishments, I know you are destined for success."

is this like the same thing or something different??? wow im confused…

^^ I got the same one. Read the date, the other posts on this thread are written in 2005.

lol ops google led me here didnt check the dates xD

I am on their list. Anyone heard form them yet?

Hi, I’m an NU alum (married to another NU alum).
The daughter of a friend of mine (both she and her husband are also NU alums) was waitlisted and just heard a “yes” from them this past Friday. She’s going!!

This was such a dead thread, that I was curious if anyone got off the wait list other than this one person.

Pizzagirl,

It is strange to me that they still took some people off the waitlist considering the number of people that sent their deposits exceeds their target by almost 200. Perhaps certain school(s) still have spaces even though the overall target has already been met?

Also, it seems to me legacy means very little, if at all, for NU. Don’t you agree?

The young woman I’m referring to is in the School of Education, if that makes a difference.
I thought NU legacy meant a lot more in the Early Decision round than in the Regular Decision round, from what I’ve read earlier on CC.
