waitlisted

has anyone got a decision yet? i was emailed today saying i was waitlisted. what are the chances of getting off? is there anything i can do to help get off?

i got wait listed too...don't know how i can help though

wait...how did you find out already?

I'm watilisted as well.
In the e-mail, they said 200 students have been waitlisted, did everyone else get the same e-mail?

yeah, i got the exact same email

It would be interesting to know the stats of those waitlisted, as well as to which other schools you have applied. One of the above waitlisted posters had a 1300/1600 SAT according to one of her earlier posts.

This must mean that the admissions office already came to decisions---they probably already sorted out rejections and admits also, if they said specifically 200 people were waitlisted.

does anyone know how many people got off the waitlist last year?

good question, I have no idea, but really love to know!
anybody?

The college search and selection forum has links to the common data sets for the different colleges. I found Kenyon's and scrolled through it. The number of people offered a spot on the waitlist last year was 1,115. 378 accepted to be placed on the waitlist. Ultimately enrolled off the waitlist were 10.

The only factor we don't know is how many were offered to enroll but did not accept for whatever reason.

Sounds like the wait list is much smaller this year. Perhaps someone from the college can confirm this.

it would seem so. if 200 people were offered a spot on the waitlist, then using the same proportions, about 70 people will accept their spot this year.

from the previous common data sets, it looks like they have always waitlisted around 1000 students. there must be a change in policy.

i would very much like a confirmation from the college on this thread

I have another question: How exactly does a wait list work? I mean, given that I get into another college, to which i have to send in my acceptance and deposit by May 1st. I will only know from Kenyon whether I have been offered a place after May 1st right? after the accepted students have notified them. So, what exactly happens then if I get off the wait list at Kenyon?

So long as you did not apply under a binding ED program at the other school, you are free to enroll at Kenyon College if offered a spot off the waiting list, although then you would lose your deposit at the other college to which you were accepted RD/EA/rolling admissions. Be prepared to make a quick decision if you receive a phone call offering a spot off of the waitlist (although I do not know whether or not Kenyon notifies students accepted from the waitlist by phone or by mail, and it may depend upon when the opening occurs). Still curious as to the SAT/ACT scores of those waitlisted by Kenyon College.

Okay thanks, so basically it's only the security deposit that I would lose?

and my SAT score was 2120

Is it possible that the quoted 200 were the international applicants placed on the waiting list? just a thought.

my email just said:

Kenyon maintains a selective wait list of approximately 200 students.

nothing about international students. 1000 seems like an awful lot to put on the waitlist when they rarely accept more than 50. maybe they decided to reduce the number?

Okay, my email said: "Admission to Kenyon was unusually competitive this year as the quality of the international applicants was extraordinary. "

and say two paragraphs later carried the line: Kenyon maintains a selective wait list of approximately 200 students. If your interest in Kenyon is serious, I encourage you to remain on the wait list.

I think the possibility of the 200 being international students, is somewhat legitimate. But tell me one thing, Is 200 a small number?

200 is a reasonably small number, considering that 100+ students will decline their spot on the list.

sigh...being on the wait list is nerve wracking... :S
