waitlisted

My D was waitlisted at University Park. The letter she received stated that she would be informed by no later than June 1 if she is accepted. Does anyone know what the waitlist looks like at Penn this year? I have heard Penn States wait list is fairly reasonable.

My S will most likely not go so you can have his spot at UP. He did not get accepted to his intended major arch there. Both my husband and I graduated there in 1981. I am trying to get my S to decline the offer ASAP to give your D a chance.

Last year 1700 accepted a place on the waitlist. 1350 got in. Last year was the first year they even had a waitlist. She is in great shape.

SSD, Sorry to hear your son didn't get into Penn State's architecture. Does he have other choices lined up. Last year we looked at many choices for our son and he did end up at Penn State. Does he have a portfolio?

My S was accepted into Pratt, NJIT and RPI and waitlisted at Syracuse (where he wants to go). He will move ahead with Pratt while waiting for Syracuse. As we live in the NYC area, the architects think very highly of Pratt. My husband is areal-estate development exec and in the business. We were annoyed with PSU since both my husband I graduated from their engineering school. Tough year but we are ok.

We also looked into Syracuse. The temporary building was impressive but because it was off-campus we were concerned. Will they be in the new building? I think Syracuse weighted the portfolio very strongly. My son on had excellent stats but not as many art classes because he was involved in a lot of other activities. Penn State looked first in gpa and test scores without a portfolio just like Virginia Tech. We were also impressed with Virginia Tech also a great program. We did not look into Pratt. NJIT, we looked into and the program was good, with a lot of scholarship money but really no on-campus living and dorms, most students go home.

Mmrtagr,

Same with my S. He did not take any art classes in HS. No time to fit it in. He produced his portfolio during a summer arch program at Parsons and in 2 1/2 months at night with an art instructor. It turned out to be pretty good but I never want to go through this again. It was crazy. Very stressful.

I agree very stressful. Finishing the portfolios, sending them out, along with applying and everything else! Did you like RPI? We felt RPI catered more to the engineers, especially seeing the architecture dept. in the basement.

It is reasonable. I know a few people who have been waitlisted there. You should send a letter of intent, update them on your accomplishments since you applied, and most importantly, tell them how great their school is, and why you would fit in there!

Yes, I like RPI as a school but do not like the town of Troy. I have known, many graduates and PHDs from RPI that are very sucessful. We just don't know much about the RPI arch program though working architects have told us that it is a solid program. My brother who went to Albany Med school warns us not to send S to Troy.
