My daughter just received notice that she was waitlisted. Two questions:
Any one know the chances of really making it off the waitlist?
The letter said not to send any additional information. As I look at other messages, I see people continuieng to provide information to admissions to try and increase chances of getting off the waitlist. Her GPA was 3.3/SAT 1400.

Really. Is your daughter out of state? She didn't get in with a 1400 SAT.?! Her AI is 60. There have been several people posting here who have been admitted with AIs below 60. I would say her chances of eventually getting have to be pretty good. As for sending additional information; I don't have any inside information.

no, she isn't out of state. I've always heard they give more wait to SAT's than grades. She didn't have a lot of activities, and she had some lackluster quarters grade wise. I was not expecting her to get in until I found these boards and saw people with much lower SAT's getting in.

UW gives 3x more weight to grades than SATs.

That's very strange. I applied to Business Administration and got in with a 1270, a 3.17 gpa, and I'm out of state. Although I have heard that University of Washington is more selective if you apply extremely late.

She applied very early. Oh well...still wondering if it helps to send in any additional information. They say in their letter it doesn't. Still wondering if anyone got in off the wait list last year.

Also got waitlisted here. 1130 SAT, 3.84 UW gpa, out of state
Decided to stay instate tho so doesn't really matter

Is there any reason why you've decided to stay instate, plantinumtlc? You really seemed like you wanted to go out of state...

Son was Rejected by UW with 3.9 GPA and 1420 GPA. He was accepted at all of the other colleges he appied to - UChicago George Washington Univ. Univ. of Texas Southwestern Georgetown. He's going to UT Austin.

We were surprised he was rejected at UW. He even applied to Honors there.
His original desire was to graduate last year (a yr. early) and go to UW. Glad he waited now b/c he LOVES UT Austin.

We are still wondering why he was rejected from UW.....

What??? Do you think he submitted an incomplete application somehow? Hard to imagine what the reason would have been, particularly since he was accepted everywhere else. Was the GPA weighted? How many times did he take the SAT?

jcsmom...that is just not right. If it were his first choice, I would definitely take action and appeal. I cannot understand why they would ever reject such a candidate unless it was for some major reason or incomplete application. I mean, he already qualifies for auto-admit (with such a high AI), he could probably get into the honors program. That is just messed up.

If people aren't getting accepted with stats like these you'd think there was some kind of major error with either the application or with the review of it. Very weird.
