flyinasian-thanks, that’s what everyone has told me. i mean i honestly am not trying to sound full of myself but i know im more qualified than so many people at my school that have gotten in. i have been trying to work with admissions on figuring this out but they have not been very helpful so far. i havent appealed yet because they discourage it at this point, but i am gathering all materials so if i decide to right now i am ready.

Ok so I talked to someone from UW and she told me that the proposals to the budget cuts would affect the coming year’s admission season and academic school year. What they are uncertain about is how many ppl decide to take their offer to go to UW because of the economy and they have the waitlist as backup incase they lose room…But there isn’t any feeling of which way they are leaning towards in terms of using the waitlist or not…

well that is somewhat good news then, at least they arent set on just telling all of us no. im also trying to contact people there to figure out what is going on, but as we have both seen they are not giving out much information unfortunately

so i checked the CDS but couldn’t find any stats on oos admissions…i have heard that it is fairly competetive for them. though this year the school might have accepted more hoping that none of them need financial aid, though with the tuition increase–which will be 14% each year for two years for a combined 28% (that’s in-state, idk if oos is different), it seems like more people are going to have to say no to uw.

I was accepted, but am not attending, so there’s one more spot for you guys.
And I know many other out of staters who were accepted, but aren’t attending because financial aid is so bad for us non-Washington residents. So UW’s yield for out-of-staters will not be very high this year, meaning more spots for waitlisted students. :)

kate-that is good news for us, thanks though i am sorry to hear that it is affecting people so much. if the economy wasnt in such a rut, im sure none of us would be in this position because the school wouldn’t have been so conservative in admissions.

I pretty much just read this whole discussion board and it’s somewhat uplifting and discouraging. I realize that soooooo many people got waitlisted this year that should’ve been accepted. It is not just the fact that I did not get accepted, but the fact that I know so many more people who have not tried as hard as I have to be accepted. I realize that UW was not my top choice, but it would be nice to at least be accepted, not be constantly brought down when someone with lower gpa, sat scores, and do not really try in school can get accepted.

I realize that I do not have the highest stats, but I can guarantee I try harder than half the people I know who have been accepted. When I told them I was waitlisted they were kind of just in shock. I am very disappointed that I obviously did not appeal to them, and now if they DO accept me I’m considering not even going to go there. I’ve already set my mind on my second choice now because obviously they want me more. For the UW to just come back to me and be like, hey we need one more person, come join us? No. I am so upset how they decided their admissions.

I mean, I’ve tried hard, and thought I would be at least accepted… but obviously not. I mean, I was one of the two people who ended up graduating early from high school but am still enrolled and through my first 1.5 years at a university. My gpa still improves and now I get all A’s in my classes. I’m even taking summer school, so I can graduate college much faster. I mean, I have taken up to eight classes a semester and received a 3.9 gpa for those semesters… I mean. It really just sucks to be reminded that you were waitlisted and all these people were admitted.

Okay, ha I just reread that and some of it didn’t make sense haha. sorry typing fast…

But i mean I’m done with my GUR’s and everything. I only need to take one more class to be done with all my GUR’s and be done with my core classes to apply for my school.

idk if they did, i was just speculating that they might have done that in the hopes that they would get more money from them. though now that they are hiking up tuition, idk how many oos will still be able to afford it.

SO now that the UW is raising the tuition does that mean that they will be able to accept a normal amount of applicants? Or are they still going to approach admissions conservativly? :(

so based on the article from the uw daily yesterday and the interviews with people at uw that have been in articles about the tuition hike, if tuition goes up they will be able to accept a lot of us it seems. they specifically said that if the tuition hike does not pass, the worst case (likely) scenario is they cant accept anyone on the waitlist. the good news for us is that it is extremely likely these increases will pass, also causing oos enrollment to go down, opening up (hopefully) a lot of spots for us.

I was accepted to the UW with high stats, and am going to attend.
But I can really relate to some of the frustration you are feeling. I didn’t get accepted by a SINGLE other school ( i applied to about 10). Luckily I’m in UW and am very happy about attending. I just feel like this was a crazy year for admissions and a ton of people didn’t get into where they expected. I really hope those of you on the wait list who want spots get in.
I know that the 2 other people ( that I know of) who get accepted at my school are not attending, if that helps.

so i talked with my high school counselor who said that uw emailed them and told them to tell any students offered a spot on the waitlist to accept it because they are planning to go to the waitlist, perhaps really heavily. so what he said in that article i mentioned a while back is actually true…idk what heavily means, but we will see. i emailed a uw counselor today that i met with last week, asking for any real answers that he could give me about all these rumors.

I think after May 1st they will get a big picture of how many people they will accept off the waitlist…Also do you think a large percentage of the 2500 people on the waitlist decided to place on the waitlist?

idk how many took a spot…im gussing there will probably be between 1500-2000 people who accept a spot. but thats complete speculation, im totally pulling that number out of thin air haha

so looking at the CDS for the past few years, usually about half of the people offered a spot on the waitlist take one. if that trend continues, it will probably be more between 1000-1500 people that take a spot. hopefully its the smaller number, and hopefully they need lost of us :)
