i dont know if this article is good news or bad news for us…

OK so i found some really big news concerning the budget cuts but i still dont know how this will effect waitlistees…

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZ

this is an article from the office of budgeting at uw about how the newly passed budget is going to affect them–scroll down and read the part about enrollments. i think it’s pretty good news for us, since “enrollments” includes freshman, transfer and grads (since they don’t specify).

http://www.washington.edu/admin/pb/home/pdf/2009-11_Legislative-Operating-Budget.pdf

so basically they are saying that enrollment will go down due to the tuition increase right? and are they also saying they want to enroll more students? i need some clarification…

sort of…its pretty much the budget cuts that are making enrollment go down but the tuition increases keep it minimal. the 1300 less spots are annual, meaning they will be taken from freshman, transfers and grads (i think) across all four quarters. so basically, depending on how many actually enroll by may 1, it is likely they will use the waitlist

thx mcf11 you have been very helpful. well… its almost may 1st and im crossing my fingers xD hopefully some good news surfaces soon.

just curious with the whole waitlist deal…if they do in fact use the list and u hear back in (lets say july) how could u get a transcript to send to them? Btw who got in the mail saying they confirmed the waitlist response?

UPDATE

my friend who got waitlisted appealed and got in

there’s still hope

seaboy-yeah i got the letter in the mail too. and if i dont find out before school ends, im just gonna request a final transcript anyways to have on hand.

mcf11- thanks much appreciated

friedrice- congrats to that person…but how possible is it to appeal and get accepted? I mean I was told straight up that is very hard to overturn a decision…

BTW THIS WHOLE APPLICATION IS ROLLERCOASTER

yes i agree, i am so rediculously stressed with ap, senior project and dealing with this is the worst of all.

and i was also told that overturning a waitlist decision is near impossible because its not really a “decision,” so i’m curious how this person did it. it kinda makes me wish i had decided to appeal, cause i really wanted to at first.

i dont think its too late to appeal

yeah i know, but i figure at this point i might as well wait to see if i get off the waitlist then appeal if i don’t. if i was going to appeal i would have done it right away, but waiting this long might just look bad haha

ESP does this mean ur going to appeal or are in the process?

Also how do you know about the whole “it not late”? just curious…thnx

i was going to but decided not to, and also if you look on the UW main site there are guidlines for appeals etc. the latest they can notify for appeals decsions is may 31st so there is still time… but its almost may 1st and we will have a really good idea of how may students will enroll… if i were u id just wait after may 1st and if chances seem slim then id write an appeal but right now wait until after may 1st.

esp- yeah that’s my rationale too. plus, i think you said a while back that you know waitlistees who found out in may last year? like how late/early…haha

well considoring the fact that most waitlistees were not accepted last year i guess it makes sense for decsions to be made faster. i heard they got their notifications towards the end of may and early june. this year notification as u all know will go from june to august due to the budget stuff and all…

ah gotchya. yeah, but i’m sure they said june to the waitlistees last year too haha the thing i’ve been trying to figure out for the past week (with no help from admissions, of course) is when exactly they make decisions–the website, letter, and e-mail all say different things and it is quite confusing. i just re-read the e-mail we all got last week, confirming our spots, and it said they will send an update by the end of june. so that implies that you could hear before then, but you will get something by then…my mom e-mailed admissions twice last week because they would not give me any answers about this simple confusion and mistake on their part so she’s calling again tomorrow…
