I was waitlisted by Yale. What should I do to maximize my chances of getting in off of the waitlist? I really want to go.

Same here. I haven’t seen a lot of information about the waitlist. Does anyone have stats from previous years about spots offered, spots accepted, and people admitted off the waitlist at Yale?

Haha I was waitlisted too. When I went back to my eli account they have stats posted on tabs now. there were 1952 people accepted, and 769 people waitlisted. I believe they generally have a freshman class of about 1200 (someone correct me if I’m wrong please since this is one thing I couldn’t find with any degree of certainty) It says on a separate tab on that page that in the last 6 years the number of waitlisted people accepted has ranged from 0 to 59. So yeah… it seems extremely low chances for us no matter how you cut it. But I’m holding onto (false?) hope!

I suspect this year will be a lot like last year when they took a lot–dozens–off the waitlist. Yale has had oversubscribed classes in the past and they need to accept a smaller than necessary number to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

My understanding is that the waitslist is not ranked. There is no predictable first person to get off the list. Yale is building a class. If no one from your geographic area or with your special talent accepts the admissions offer, then you’re much higher on the waitlist than if lots of people with similar profiles decide to matriculate. So it’s beyond your control.

How to improve chances on the waitlist? The only thing you can really control is to get good second semester grades instead of slacking off a the end of senior year. New essays, recs, etc. aren’t going to make a difference.

send awards if u have pursued competitions over the last several months. I get results back from the national french contest in late april and im going to the international scienc fair in may so if uve done stuff…let them know. The guy I called warned me to only send significant awards tho…i wanna go so bad
