Waitlisted

what is our chances and how many people usually get waitlisted???

thanks sdtriton and enemyunit, and yeah ill let you know

shayant i thought i answered you already, no one knows. i believe this is the first year UCSD is doing it. just click yes by april 15th, and you’ll know between may 8 and 18.

Wow, your stats are far better than mine, and I managed to get in.

I dunno, with UCSD, it can be a gamble. Maybe this year they were looking for kids with a lot of really strong ECs?

You are obviously bright and deserving, but there seem to be an extraordinary number of bright and deserving kids apply to college these days. I went to Yale in the late seventies, and it was competitive, but nothing like today. My son was rejected from UCSD and is hoping for UCSC now. The good news is that all colleges are improving because not all professors and students can be in the same top schools, so they are going elsewhere, improving other schools. With your qualifications, you will probably be admitted if you are patient. Good luck

thanks bogney, i already have acceptance from sjsu, ucr w/ regents, uci w/ chp. uci and ucsd must now have very different acceptance criteria, as i dont know how i can get uci’s chp but not even a shot at regular entrance into ucsd… oh well uci would be just as good (except ucsd is right ON the beach…)

@zippi, thats what bothers me,i thought my ec’s were pretty strong. sports, community service, clubs, piano competitions, science fair… i like to think it was my essays… lol.

^Don’t worry about the beach. Just go to UCI. That’s what I would do. I liked that place a lot.

how many people do you think will get in at most? 100 maybe!!!

shayant,

You need to calm down. It has already been said multiple times that this is the first year the waitlist has been used so NO ONE KNOWS. PLEASE GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEAD.

TsangBokyan:

Sorry to hear that you are wait-listed, your stats look impressive to me. Why don’t you call up UCSD’s admission office and ask them why you are wait-listed and if they could give you a breakdown of your points. Also, take a good look at your application again: Did you forget to put down any important info? Do you actually earn the total 50+ a-g courses? Good luck!

jomudd88:

yeah i talked to my calc bc teacher just half an hour ago and he has a son in ucsd. he said to call up the admissions office and ask if i had anything missing off my app ( i didnt, as i still have a copy i printed out, and uci and ucr accepted me so i know i have all my courses). he has first hand experience of a college overlooking/losing some material or information… i hope this is not the case.

im just gonna call them and ask why; if i dont get in thats fine with me now, im ok with UCI’s chp after reading about it.

sorry Richzz89 but it is hard, you know.

Is anyone here going to do the waitlist option? I’m concerned because the form says:

“If I am offered admission from the UC San Diego waitlist but have already accepted an offer of admission from another UC campus, I understand that I will be re required to withdraw the first campus Statement of Intent to Register in order to submit a positive SIR to UC San Diego. Any SIR deposit fee paid to another campus is non-refundable.”

Does this mean I have to go to UCSD if I am accepted off of the waitlist?

no you just have to cancel the other one , i guess.

it says the SIR deposit is non-refundable. does anyone know how much we have to pay when we send in SIR to another uc school? it’ll suck if it’s like… a lot… and we get accepted to ucsd after we pay…

I’m pretty sure the SIR deposit is $100

Just out of curiosity, how many people are on the wait list? I heard 1,200?

heard the same number.

Just curious as to how many of you are white with those high numbers? Do you realize that you could have gotten in if you were an URM? Reverse discrimination! Why isnt anyone protesting about that on the UC campus???

TsangB- Condolences. For your sanity and closure, and since you were a strong candidate, I would encourage you to call SD and inquire why you were waitlisted. You seem to have calmed down some and see UCI as an acceptable school. Good Luck.

ss102,

What are you talking about? URM’s play no status on UC admission. Affirmative Action is illegal in California. Stop coming up with this nonsense, you have no one to blame but yourself for lack of gaining admission.
