I recently found out I was on the Waitlist for NC State. Anyone know the stats of people who are accepted off the waitlist. Is it worth my time to contact the Admissions office / Write a letter / send my 3rd quarter grades, or is the process of accepting candidates off the waitlist completely randomized. State is my 1st choice so I would like to do whatever is possible to increase my chances of getting off the WL

Call them. Tell them they are your number one and ask them if there is anything you can do to enhance your candidacy. Be polite and respectful and yet determined. Not wishy washy or weak. If they tell you to do nothing, then thank them and hang up. If they tell you what to do, thank them and then do it.

If they say do nothing, then go to your guidance counselor and see what they say. Sometimes they know people in admissions and can advocate for you particularly if your grades went up.

Most colleges will accept a simple one page letter explaining your continued interest, any NEWS about your gpa or classrank (not repeating what they already have and know), and telling them you will drop everything to attend there. Thank them nicely, but not gushing. It may be helpful to mention a particular program you are interested in attending.

Some schools like UNC-CH specifically state to do NOTHING and DON"T send any more information.

Good luck. NCState is a fine school.
