Waitlisted

Do I still have a chance?
Or Does waitlist mean a gentle rejection?

OK…

How are we supposed to answer your question when we don’t know…

What school is this?

Do you need financial aid?

Either way…a student who has been waitlisted needs to proceed as if rejected. Embrace your second choice. If at some point you come off the waitlist, you can then decide what to do. But, right now, proceed with #2.

Notre Dame (How hard is it to get off the waitlist for notre dame?)

I do not need FA and I am an international student.

Well, usually not needing any FA is a plus for coming off the waitlist.

*
My stats are ridiculous for Notre Dame. Top 25%, 1950, no other test scores and I am not even a minority. I got waitlisted and I am actually happy about that. I think I didn’t get flat out rejected because they knew how much I loved the school regardless of my poor poor stats.

What can I do?
Whom shell I contact? The dean of admissions? *

Hmmm, your stats aren’t strong. You’re in the bottom 25%. What country are you from?

What is the breakdown of your SAT?

Notre Dame mid 50s

Middle 50% of First-Year Students

SAT Critical Reading: … 650 - 750
SAT Math: … 680 - 760
SAT Writing: … 640 - 730
ACT Composite: … 31 - 34

mom2collegekids,

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I do need Financial Aid from schools I’m trying to come off the waitlist for but they are “need blind.” Is this need for aid still deleterious to my chances of coming off? (The schools are Swarthmore, Middlebury, Amherst, Williams, and UPenn.)

CR: 680

W:650

2020 Superscored…

Beowulf-international, or US?Makes a difference.

Some “need blind” schools are NOT need blind for their waitlists. You need to find out about your various schools’ positions of waitlists and needing aid.

2020 Superscored… *

Well, your super score is better, it’s still low for the school. What country are you from? If you’re from a country that ND doesn’t have many students, that’s a plus for you. Where are you?

I go to school in the states but I am originally from South Korea.

What do you think I should do?
I think just emailing them and say how much I love the school and etc looks…kinda bad.
Should I send them a letter or something?

It’s going to be tough this year with the ND waitlist. From the sounds of it, they admitted more students for the same number of spots (Don’t know how that works out). And I’ve also heard that there are 2,000 on the waitlist. Best of luck to you. It’s a tough situation. I am a current ND student and my brother got waitlisted. He was pretty upset. Unfortunately, I am starting to think this is going to be one of those years where they don’t admit many, if any at all, from the waitlist.

OldbatesieDoc,

I am a US Citizen :)

Beowulf-that is better, because I believe these schools are need blind for US citizens. Some are still so for internationals, but this is an area where schools are trying to economize

Beowulf…

Many schools who are “need blind” for regular admissions are NOT need blind for waitlists. That’s because they often have run out of money by that point, or they just want to be assured of more full (or near full) payers.

Igotwaitlisted: *I go to school in the states but I am originally from South Korea. *

Hmmm…well, as post #12 suggests, this is a bad year for ND waitlist. I dont’ know how schools count kids who are int’ls in the US vs. int’ls from abroad. IF they were to admit you, do they get to count you as a student from South Korea? If so, that may be a plus if they don’t have many students from there. Do they?

What are your other choices?
