Waitlisted

I got waitlisted from MSU.

I'm in for the Spring term, but they still have to tell me about the Fall.

I was with a friend who said that most of the kids who get in for the Spring actually do get in for the fall at some point, which I didn't think at all. I still don't believe him.

Do a lot of people get in for the fall if they've been waitlisted and guaranteed acceptance for the Spring term?

Stats:
3.3 Unweighted GPA (top 50 percentile)
30 on the ACT
Athletics/Extracurriculars - Yes
Some honors/AP classes. Two this year.

People get into the fall who are initially admitted for spring. Your stats look good so I am surprised you were waitlisted. Some people will get off the waitlist in May or June but others hear later. We know people who found out a week before school started. Best bet is to stay flexible.

Does that happen often or should I not get my hopes up?

It happens often. I don’t know the percentage but I think most who get in spring semester will eventually get in fall semester. Don’t slack off at the end of school and make sure to submit your final transcripts as soon as you get them. If your 2nd semester senior grades are good (i.e. 3.5+) then I would bet that you are in for fall.

As res ipsa said, stay flexible - don’t “expect” to get in and make sure to plan as if you start MSU in the spring. BUT also have a contingency plan set up in the case that you do hear from MSU that you can attend in the fall, because that is a distinct possibility as well.
